Got my finger out my arse today and did a couple of hours on the touring this afternoon. Not a massive amount done, but progress all the same.
Actually enjoyed it with no real hassles to contend with, hopefully a dry day tomorrow and I'll continue with the stripping. Was going to go to the drag strip but think I'll use the opportunity to crack on.
First of all I removed the complete front end in 1 piece, then dismantled it on the floor just undid it at the subframe, top mounts and front brake pipes & ABS wires.

The front calipers will be going, replaced by Wilwood 4 pots & 280mm front discs.
With that out the way and routinely pestered by this prowler, we moved to the rear end

This came down with little aggravation

Prop is still mounted at the centre bearing as it's well cruashed. Look at the carrier. Couldn't get a socket on the right hand nut for the carrier as it is crushed over.

So tomorrow I'll get the rear end stripped down, get the tank out and carry on removing any clobber i'll be needing to swap over onto the chromie. I'd hope that by next weekend I'll be ready to throw the touring shell away.
If I get my arse in gear, maybe my semi-deadline of 2nd bank holiday in May is achievable

Update from Sunday's activity.
Got the rear end down, had to butcher (cut) a handbrake cable after getting fed up pulling. I think one of the tubes in the chassis is crushed.

Had to get a neighbour to come and help me lift this lot down the driveway alongside the car as a complete rear end is heavy as foook
Scrap yard

All I need to do with the rear end is get in the boot and pull the cubby boxes out so I can get to the rear top mounts and get the konis undone. Also need to drop the fuel tank down, sure it had about 1/3 of a tank of squirt in it so I'll need to give the pump a direct feed before I drop that and also remove the brand new fuel lines. (i'll probably need this lot as the chromie is a carb jobby)
Then I decided to have a fiddle about inside and removed a section of loom Dezzy need. After much levering with a large pry bar I managed to get the rear door to open on the driver side. This also then after more forcing and levering, managed to get the driver door to move enough to release the pressure off the driver seat and I got that out.

The seat seems fine, the base is bent but would straighten, worst case scenario is a new mount cost £38 from Merlin Motorsport.

The marks on the back are from me pushing it with my feet.
So, not much left to remove and this shizzle will be ready for the final jouney to the bone yard. I am going to remove the carpet and see if it is damaged, if it isn't I will use it in the chromie as that has the pov loop style carpet.
Buckets will be for sale (a member has first shout on them) but if he doesn't want them, I'll put a for sale thread up. I would have no qualms about using them both again (if I didn't have a 2dr or if I was doing a more track focused car)

Cheers for the loom matey.
Do anything today?
Did you stick your head under the rice and see where the sump bowl is by any chance?

Will you stop banging on about rice burners Dez..
Make sure you take the fuel pump/diff sensor loom out of it Lee, you will need this, the plug may be different also so chop a length of wire with the plug. If you have a twin sensor tank you will need the wiring/plug from the pass side as well

Cheers Dan, I'll make sure I get the looms before I throw the turd away.
Is there anything else you can think of that isn't obvious as it'll be a right ball ache buying loads of silly bits I have thrown away.
Dezzy, not had a look but here's an old pic taken underneath the soarer.
The sump sits behind the crossmember& rack (supported on the jack stand in this pic)

So I guess you'd need a LS400 sump as I think they are different. Check with Riley - Drifty325i what he used to be certain.
Wait until you have to do a belt change mate

Cheers Lee. I would need a front bowl sump.
Gearbox is being a nit of a mare to sort out. Might be a none starter if I can't work it out.
Again sorry Dan.
Find me a better, lighter or higher reving V8 that slots straight in an E30 and I am all ears mate.

TVR racing V8's are always broken. Dry sump racing V8's are sex but rice doesn't go wrong.keri-WMS wrote:AJP8

I hope to have it done by June Alex, hope to get some more passes in at York Dragway over the summer, but in default of that, it will defo be ready for the pod
Ok, what about the Speed Six Mellings straight-six in an E30? I've been thinking it for a while, has to be a really neat swap?
