Got new earth straps on it, all checked and tight as are the battery terminals.

The alternator is the original 535i one.

Doing my head in. :x

Been fine for a few weeks, now its started playing up. When I take it out for a drive after a while the abs light comes on, then if you turn the car off it won't start. Its like the battery is flat, it was starting off a boost pack but now it won't start off that or jump leads. Its not the battery.

Any ideas anyone?
i had this very same problem years ago on an audi 100 it turned out to be the alternator after a lot of head scratching ?

Now im going to assume the wiring is similar to OE e30 engines, but there is a black and yellow wire under the steering column that can sometimes comes loose, did on mine and had exactly the same symptoms. I think it shuts off all of the engine-side electrics like ecu, starter and things like that, may be worth a look, although as i said, im assuming the wiring is similar to OE spec.

Anyways HTH :D

Check the wiring coming out of the fuse box under the glove compartment for any melting or burning of the wires and also may be consult Spadge who fixed similar prob with my 335 which had burned out all the wiring so a full rewire was done by spadge/jules.

Got the touring sorted Saturday, turns out the alt belt was stretched and slightly slipping, not enough to squeel or light the battery light but enough to cause a voltage drop to the abs.

Annoying as its a new belt. Never mind, quick trip to the auto electrics shop and a wider belt, all sorted.

Running sweet as now, just got to get my 3" exhaust couriered down and fitted. Other than that its fiannly done, I think!! Goes like f**k and well worth the effort of the conversion. :D
