I know what you mean! Mine got very hot several times during my two proper bleeding procedures, it's a bit worrying but mine seems ok now. The only thing I have noticed is that my electric fan seems to be on permanently once the engine has warmed up and after switch off it caries on for about 40 minutes! And flattens the battery! Might be my fan switch is too close to the hot engine? :? Knackered sensor - even though it's brand new?

I'm with ya man - frustrating as hell!! Everything has worked well up to this point. I think the only thing that saved the engine is that the electric fan was constantly on aswell and it is a big 16 inch sucker! But you are right about the battery - the fan belt had stretched (new one) and it wasnt running the alternator properly (couldnt stop and tighten it as I had no tools in the car) and my lights were getting dimmer and dimmer - just made it home before they totally went out! I am ready to stick a match under the bastard!!

I've felt like that at times! And most likely will again soon!

I've just been looking through my 'car' paperwork and it seems I have declared the car SORN (off the road so no tax) but forgotten to send away the V5 log book. What a tit!

Got to get it taxed this week! 8O

Got the week off work so I might be tinkering some more!

I feel I'm suffering a lack of power (just as well as I also feel I'm suffering a lack of brakes too), just doesn't feel like a 220+bph car. Spark plug colour indicated running lean! :( Brake and engine work tomorrow then, and hopefully insurance cover note so I can tax it and actually drive it properly! Nice relaxing week off work, not!

That torque curve is amazing! 8O
Power curve very nice and smooth also.
What chip and camshaft are you running?
And did the power curve continue up a tad after 6000rpm?

I can't say it's much quicker than before the pina lump went in TBH, it needs a re-map as the timing and the fueling have got to be out now with the higher C/R ?

Yep, it's broken already!

Adjusted the handbrake as advised on the mot, much better now! Got it taxed, so now all legal. Took it for it's first proper drive, bit
of motorway too. Ok so far up to indicated 110 in fourth. All seemed fine until almost back home, and with 68 miles on the trip meter, there was a LOUD groaning noise up front. By the time I got home it was really bad and was more apparent when steering. Open the bonnet and there is frothy atf bubbling out of the pas reservoir cap! :(
Looks like the pas pump is knackered and aerating the fluid somehow.
And the fluid level is now higher than what it was before! ? 8O Hope tomorrow I can get the car to a scrappy (I know where there is an E32 735i) and to a shop (for atf) and back home with it like that! :?

CAN'T BE MISSING THE POD ON SATURDAY!!!

It broke in just 68 miles!

I apreciate the kind thought though. Thanks Andy335Touring! :thumb:

I can't see the car becoming undriveable in 20 odd miles I intend to do with it to get the parts so I'll go for it. It is a horrendous noise though! :?

if you can't find a M30 one, it may be of use to know that i fitted what i believe was a 320i M20 one to mine the other day. it needed the M30 pas pump pulley swapping over onto it and 2 washers under each of the front bolts (between the pump and bracket) as the casing is slightly shorter but it's in seems to work fine.

mine sounded like there was a chainsaw under the bonnet!

Not good either - but I'm still in denial about all this.
The brakes are shocking. I'm too scared to go fast unless I can see for a mile ahead. They don't seem to be bedding in and getting alot better.

There is no way this is a 220+bhp car. My old Capri 2.8i with 160bhp was this quick. It does idle a bit rougher than I expected and just doesn't seem smooth. I'm still suspecting I've got the camshaft timing a tooth out. Or there is an eletrical issue maybe. Or fuel starvation. I don't know.

But if it goes on the day it will be at the Pod, fingers crossed! 8O

Yeah, didn't think of that!

I'd have to have about 7 Weetabix for breakfast tomorrow if I do that!

I might go for that, don't want my THIRD rack (already) suffering for nothing. ?

Cheers!

Thanks, but I intend not to need it. I'm actually quite optomistic about it all, I probably should know better by now!

I'm determined to go to Santa Pod!

Ah mate you must have run over a black cat or something :( sorry to hear you are still having a few dramas. I had PS trouble aswell - the PS pump that came with my engine was the big one with the extra self leveling attachment - I plugged it up but it didnt like that and kept leaking and frothing - so I tightened it up more and then the pump cracked! I had an E30 one and as gareth said had to change the pulley and I pinched my brother in laws M30 bracket (his is the normal pump).

I was just about to update!

Went to the scrappy today - in the pouring rain - got the pas pump I needed, spare alternator and top hose - I've seen a pattern emerge with this car so I'm getting prepared!

Fitted new pas pump and that seems ok now.

Went over the valve clearances again, put them all to 0.20mm, a little bit quiter now.
Engine is still not impressing me with power or smoothness though.
Bought another new set of plugs in case they didn't like all the initial flooding, overheating and idling alot. Try those in the morning.

I will be attempting to get there though. :)

It's done about 85 miles now, about 10 miles since I fixed it. :?

There must be something not quite right with it - last night I took mine to 4000rpm in second and floored it - the front wheels nearly lifted off the ground! - Slight eggageration - but hell it got up and mumbo'd :D

Mine doesn't! :(

I still might have a peep at the camshaft timing again, I could have been a tooth out.
I've tried to order a chip as well to give that a go.

It's been dry for ages but tonight on the way back from work it spun the back wheels up in second when it came on cam, sort of caught me off guard but i was going in straight line so no drama thank god.
