Yes. And you're going to struggle to beat that noise with a 'proper' exhaust on it. Not a particularly easy swap, but there are a few on here. I very much doubt it's something I'll ever do with my current E30, but perhaps one day if I have the right car lying around. That said though, I'll more likely go with an LS1 or similar. I've managed to convince my brother to keep hold of his touring that he offered me for free, but I expect I'll have it off him some time...blackcountrybimmerman wrote:A V8 will fit?Ziggy wrote:M30 suits me fine... but if I was starting it again now I'd probably be braver & go M60
An M20 with a decent exhaust/mani is a very nice sounding thing. M30's pretty similar really, but I'd say the m20 probably shades it.
E30 in need of wiring loom smoke since April '11...
S50B32 has double infinite vanos so has more than 200lb-ft from 2200rpm and at 3250rpm it has 258lb-ft so its a pretty torquey motor.87mtech27 wrote:is this true?87mtech27 wrote:s50 doesn't have a good powerband (especially torque) at low revs from what i heard, is this right?

An E30 weighs two parts of bugger all compared to an E36 M3, so it's still going to be pretty rapid!reggid wrote:S50B32 has double infinite vanos so has more than 200lb-ft from 2200rpm and at 3250rpm it has 258lb-ft so its a pretty torquey motor.87mtech27 wrote:is this true?87mtech27 wrote:s50 doesn't have a good powerband (especially torque) at low revs from what i heard, is this right?

s38 is a bit of a ballache to shoehorn into the e30 bayTheMoose wrote:I see that the S38 is not that popular. I kind of fancy the engine as it comes out of the E30 era. But I hear it's a b*$#h to build. What you guys think of it's performance vs the s50?
s50 is a much better option

Karans was the only working RHD S38 car, the ballache comes into getting the exhaust manifold past the steering coupling. He said his car was much faster than an S50 powered carleeparkes wrote:s38 is a bit of a ballache to shoehorn into the e30 bayTheMoose wrote:I see that the S38 is not that popular. S50B32 is the superior engine makes about same hp and torque but with less cc plus better power delivery down low.GrindCulture wrote:Karans was the only working RHD S38 car, the ballache comes into getting the exhaust manifold past the steering coupling. E30 325is with M20B31
Main thing with those is the price and availability. M88's are much more harder to come by than S38's. Also S38 is quite a bit newer technology which is always good.TheMoose wrote:Why is it that with S38 conversions, the E34 M5 engine is prefered to the E28 M5 engine?
(Hijack-sorry) I have access to the E28 M5 engine and would love to do a swap, but I am afraid that it doesn't seem to popular.
Basically M88 or S38 swap is quite the same.
