not too bad then, and a that price i can't argue
the spec of the machine is irellevant too, but it's shame there's little fragging potential as it'll be pretty much morsel free, but a damn good home for all of your morsels

Yeah most of the running gear etc will be bin fodder as it is not upgrade material for anyone. I plan on keeping the car bone stock including the keep fit windows etc so visually the only difference will be sitting lower and on my 15" cup alloys.
Are the inner arches different on pre-facelift cars to say the ones on my touring?
Reason I ask is that the touring is utterly rock solid under there and I could always cut out some decent sized sections from that before the shell gets weighed in. I don't think I can be arsed with a full on resto at the moment, I'll probably just crash it straight after anyway

I would roll the rear arches anyway - a bit of P38 and a rattle can to mint them up. Inner arches - cardboard from inside the car and a skim of P38 on the outside - all it has to do is keep the rain out. Bollocks to trying to patch it with a welder.
I'm an expert at this, ask Pete............
If you convert it to lecky windows, you'll need the glass and motors etc from that blue 2 door at U Pull It - for £10 each, but the whole doors! I'll have the old manual winders and door glasses from you.
Don't bin the M10 just yet, might have a victim for it.

I think it was actually just crap from the boot floor and from the carpet when I took it out, sure it had no rot down there

hope to get it home in the next couple of weeks.
The immediate plan is I need to gut the garage as you can barely walk in there at the mo. Then turn my attention to the touring. With the garage cleared I hope to remove as much stuff for transplanting as possible. I'm thinking of just undoing the strut tops and subframe and lifting the shell complete off the front end and engine etc.
Really need shot of the touring shell before getting the chromie home but I can see some overlap

Be a good idea to get the chromie running and let a bodyman loose on it,perhaps £300 per side to sort the rear arches, sounds a lot,but that gives you a rock solid base car for £700,not too bad at current rates.
If you can, hang on to the touring for as long as possible,if you can put the two side by side, even better, make the build much easier...and there is always something you forget to rob before the thing goes to the crusher,if it's still there you can grab it!

+1, it is easier to swap stuff staight over - you don't miss things or lose things that way and you know exactly how it fits.
I was discussing it with Bob a couple of days ago and we reckon if you have enough man power - the shell(s) could be lifted off their running gear and swapped over very easily!

Struggling with enthusiasm for this mo fo at the moment, have done nothing to the touring since it got home. Am sorting with Dezzy to get the chromie to his work for a bit of welding & an MOT and will then get it back home. Am hoping with that on the driveway I may get the motivation to get stuck in.
Such a bummer this happened just as winter is setting in, done nothing but pish it down and blow a gale here today.
Thanks for your help Dezzy, really appreciated mate

with the evenings drawing in, it's hard to rustle up the enthusiasm for projects at the best of times. probably worse in your case.
even if you do it bit by bit, you'll get it sorted and all the bugs ironed out before long i'm sure

Oh FFS not again!!
At least get it jacked up on axle stands?
Best way is to get the chromie MOT'd first though, no ABS means you can have a proper airbox too!
Get some pics of that steering linkage/manifold clearance up

Lol, I got a new box for that mate and fitted it, just needs some fine tuning as it is blowing ever so slightly where the slit is on the pipe (just need to belt the rear box inwards with the rubber mallet). I'm just so sick of jacking up cars on the driveway, which reminds me, I'm going to buy a bigger trolley jack as mine is crap and also so higher axle stands
