Another pithy comback from Demlot!Demlotcrew wrote:Well its quite clear Max what we have here is a typical â€Ëatechspectunner' who clearly has had first hand experience of both cars on the Northloop and on the road side by side/head to head. So I would suggest we listen to what he has to say as hes only regurgitated what others have said and thats got to be correct! right....................?Geoff wrote:But thats how they got those figures Max....using the road. If you research any road test you'll see how they wax lyrical about the engine being a stormer and makes this a rapid car. They all quote around the 6.0/6.1 0-62.
Top Gear say it'll be in the 5's to 60mph.
I know your a defiant M3 lover as are many but you have to give it up when something faster comes along Max, and it has. The 130i.
Im not saying its better than an M3 as that would be silly, but its faster, plain and simple im affriad.
You clearly have issues with people who dont side with your trail of thought. Whilst it must be fun to have your head in the clouds being a dreamer, im more of a realist.
FACTS speak for themselvs, the 130i is the quicker car...end of.

Geoff believe,
my head is far from being in the clouds, and you are correct i do have issues with people especially those who dont know what they are talking about! Maybe you should sit down and get your old man to teach you a thing or two about cars?
FACTS? All we have is your pathetic non factual argument with no data not even an attempt to show how exactly the 130i is quicker! End of!

LOL!! You do make me laugh!!
We'll i've given up, you win, yo uknow it all. You need to change your name to "Oracle" from now on.
I did however spy this vid. Not conclusive to my case by any means but not a bad vid. Do take it account that this is a racing/track orientated M3 and not a standard one.
Till the next duell Demlot!

Hmm I heard on the grape vine that the particular M3 in question was shagged, I expect a zoner knows better as I believe the owner of the car is known to this forum, may even be a member themself.JMRe30 wrote:did anyone see the fifth gear shootout between an m3 and a delta integrale? they were both slower around the track then a colt cz3 (iirc)

Anecdotal evidence, for all we know the 1 could have had many modifications too.

There won't be another M1, BMW have too much respect for their own history to badge a 1-series like that.
I have, however, heard a fairly solid rumour about a forthcoming M10, said to be in the spirit of the M1, i.e. no leather, wood or chrome, built as a track day/race car (similar to Porsche's GT2/GT3)

This is a spicy thread. Personally I think bm are still making great engines, but I mean as in they are ahead of all their equivalent rivals in terms of power outputs, economy and emissions which everyone is so bothered about these days. Will they still be soldiering around in 20 years time though? I don't think so.
Having worked for bmw i've driven most of the current models, i've driven all 1 series bar the 130i and coming 123d and I think its a very well balanced car as bm's always are, and a great all rounder. But M powers aside nothing put a smile on my face like an e30 does, and i'm really not just saying that because I couldn't afford anything newer. I still looked forward to driving it home every night.
So much complication taking away the feel - fly by wire throttles, 300 airbags, electric steering, multiple driver aids, sat nav, etc etc. And i don't miss any of it. And then there's the weight of all this stuff, 130i's are pushing 1.5 tons despite its super light engine. Even the straight sixes sound like a bit like sewing machines now that m54's are completely phased out. The character has gone.
An e30 M3 may not be able to do 0-60 in 5.8237 seconds, but I bets its twice as fun as a 130i.
In a perfect world - 130i to take to work, e30 M3 evo for the weekends

You've hit the nail on the head. Even at idle, an M30 from an Alpina B9 3.5 E28 sounds the bollocks. Out on the road it feels incredibly lively with a lovely noise. Even though it was made 25 years ago, a B9 3.5 is still as fast as a current 530i.BMracing wrote: Even the straight sixes sound like a bit like sewing machines now that m54's are completely phased out. For an everyday car I'd still like an E90 320d but there isn't much in the current BMW range that you could really cherish - certainly not the current M5 which although very quick is just overkill. The only BMW I really like is the 630i Sport (Coupe, not Convertible) which is a very nice thing indeed. They can make the 1 Series do 200mph, I still think it's a horrid ugly turd.
