hi i have a mate with a 1999 528i and his cars been totalled from the side and so i can have the engine at a decent price but will it go into my sport?
if the engine wont go in complete then will a m54 crank fit either a m50 or a m20?
i may consider getting a m50 as dont want too much hassle but if thats not possible i would like to use the crank in the original m20

any ideas of what can be done with this engine or its parts

thanks

ive now bought the m54 2.8 and have been told it dont fit because of its vanos and fly by wire pedals (these parts have gone on the car) and all i can do is either mate the block to a m50 head or use the crank in my original m20??

will it mate to the m50 head?
if not will the m54 crank go into my m20 as i know the m52 crank does?

thanks

The vanos will not stop it from fitting.
The fly by wire system can be fitted as this is the system used on the bmw v12 engine which people have fitted in the e30.
Not sure on the crank fitting a m20.

Andyboy mentions something about M54 engine swap here and bolting an M40 gearbox on

M54 didn't come as a 2.8, only 2.2, 2.5 & 3.0 :) 2.8 will be the M52.

i thought it was double vanos but if its not then makes it better for me as i can fit an entire m52 easier then a m54 as i dont wana much about with that fly by wire stuff

thanks guys
