Just been out with the old man in his new toy. I want the engine in my e30

Subaru impreza type 25 spec c LITCHFIELD. The car has just done 700 miles so is about worn in according to the cosworth guys who build them.

It flies, when tested last week it's at 412bhp @ 7000. Should be around 415 + bhp at next test.

3.7 0-60 and 8.7 0-100. 6th gear from 50mph is much more responsive than my 325i in 3rd

It feels like a space ship with the 4wd and the constant burble. I know it's not an e30 but it had to be mentioned. I'm going to put a video on youtube soon. Hopefully my turn to drive soon!!

P.S can you fit any scooby engines to the e30's??

WOW! thats quick and with the flat 4 design and small size i think it would go quite nice in an e30.

Thats what I was tinking, I'd want around 300bhp so a standard sti would be fine. like you say a small engine.
What about the drive?? 4wd to rwd??

never heard of a scubby engine in a e30 but that would be great!

very tunable.

even if you got a crashed impreza or legacy you would have 200bhp or then put the sti turbo on and a chip would see you over 300bhp easy.

god that would be great would it fit?

very wide block. and you would have to use an IX as your running gear.

i would want a go in that

Would the engine fit between the chassis rails on the E30?

although its quite wide its quite small hight and length wise.

http://www.heckermachine.com can make all sorts of adapters for gearboxes/engines so you could bolt on a bmw or cosworth box

What exactly would make it weak running 4wd in an iX?

surely if you used the impreza transaxle instead of the iX gearbox it'd be fine...

I'm glad it wasn't that scooby I raced the other night, I bet that would have had a different outcome! :D

Mate at work has a prodrive STI which isn't slow, it's running 450bhp and he's spunked £12k on parts in three months!

Still, flat 4's aren't anywhere near as nice sounding as a straight six at full chat, especially one with a truck turbo bolted on!!! :D

Surely you'd just use the Impreza gearbox and diffs with hubs/struts from something FWD with the same stud pattern and similar offset. I guess you'd want to remove some of the castor at the front and the steering arms would need to be modified to keep the correct geometry. Either that or swap in the whole Impreza drivetrain shafts, hubs and all, it's been done on other shells.

They do seem to be fragile though, you don't see many older Imprezas for sale at the cheap end of the market that haven't had a 'rebuild' and not all the gearboxes are up to the job once you start playing with the engine.

However... they do sound

You know its a scooby before you see them. I do like the sound actually. Other good points are the low centre of gravity due to the flat four. Safe to say the OP's old mans car is a pure weapon. I'd have one in a flash!

Mate of mine has a legacy B4 RSK, its stealth weapon. No one knows what it is (I didnt before he showed me).

280bhp as standard twin turbo 4x4 and the typical scooby burble soundtrack, does 0-60 in about 5.8 IIRc and pulls to over 150mph on a track.

You'd be better off sourcing an older legacy with the twin turbo engine in, same 280bhp but as the leggy hasnt got the impreza image they're often forgotten about a lot of the time
