Can anyone point me to an accurate list of BMW ECUs? Or list the numbers of the various M5x ECUs?
I have a list from www.allmakes.fr , and there appears to be errors in it.

That list at least contains the 413 in my M50 vanos, but is still not quite what I'm looking for, as the different ECUs aren't dated - there's no indication as to whether a particular ECU is for a 525 M20, a 525 M50 or a 525M50 vanos for instance.
Some peculiarities as well: A 402 is listed for a 520 and a 525, a 403 is listed for a 325, but a 520, and conversely, a 405 is listed for a 320 and a 525. Is this correct?

Better, apart from the strange strip like lay out down the margin of ten pages!
Not complete though! There's no mention of the M50B20 engine, and it shows the 413 as being both used with and without EWS. Surely that can't be correct?

The 413 had an early (pre 1995) "burgundy" labeled version and a later (post 1995) "silver" labeled version. The burgundy one does not have any EWS protection, but the silver one does. Apparently the ecu itself is identical, it's just the software on the chip (which can be replaced) that controls whether it uses the EWS or not.

Hope that helps

Thanks! Now you mention it, I've read about this burgundy/silver bit on US forums.
