just completed the install of an euro s50b32 into my e30. the thing rocks. however, i have a lumpy idle. i took it to the dealer to scan for any faults. he plugged in the diagnostic machine and we could watch ALL the sensors and engine timing.....everything. he did notice the exhaust vanos was not actuating at all. he mentioned there was a small resistor that will commonly break off inside the vanos housing.

does anyone have any links to how to fix the resistor inside the vanos housing?

im located in the united states, so information on these motors is a little vague.

cheers, jason

Jason,

I'm not aware of these resistors your dealer is talking about. Considering the relative rarity of these engines in the US, I suspect he may be basing his suggestion on a US spec engine.

This is the best article I know of regarding the vanos solenoids on the S50B32.

really close. im looking for any type of write up that speaks about the wires (shown in the photo) that can wiggle loose from vibration.

actually the technitian has built a few euro s50b32's for race cars.... 380hp engines. he is definately a rarity in the states.

cheers, jason
