No one engine is the best, it's which engine best suits what you are trying to achieve, different strokes for different folks.

gotta be the M30 for the money imo. it doesn't spoil the handling like some people say and looks like bmw fitted it for you!

I'd like to have a go in an M3 or M5 powered E30 but for the money I reckon M30 3.5 BIG six is very good indeed! winkeye

Boo, no turbo options either :(

Think turbocharging really suits these cars in that you can have an economical drive if you're restrained, and the M20B25 can make prodigous power for not a vast amount of money :D

I agree with Andy aswell - It all depends what your requirements are - but I will put my 2 cents in for the M30 3.5. It is so versatile - you can drive it around like a granny so easily and even just leave it in 5th if you like - but when the mood strikes you can plant your foot and enjoy all that silky smooth torque and power and it bloody goes! There is not much around that will get past you. winkeye

well im going for the standard 325i lump with a zone chip! i love it!!!
revs like hell and is just a joy to drive.

but every now and again it doesnt satisfy.

but then again i have a M30 and am swapping for that. the only thing is, in the big 5 series the m30 feels lost at high revs?
so if the M30 lump can have more top end power then thats the engine to have.

i like to rev my engines! they sound good! :D

I'm with you on the noise thing dude!
To me the noise of a car can make it or break it! The noise is half the fun!

I've got an M30 engine with mods and over 6000 rpm it screams like a good 'un!

Maybe a topic should be started with peoples recordings of their engines/exhausts! winkeye
