I think they want 15k for the kit....

Nice but I actually prefer the S62 - better soundtrack imo, plus a proper transmission etc.

As its looking closer and closer to HG failure, my car will be due some TLC under the bonnet soon. Just got to get the finances to coincide and then it will be time for some long overdue Dr. Frankenstein antics...

LS1 is suposed to be lighter than an M20 with gobs of power, have a look at this auction but be quick if you want it as theres only 4 hours to go.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... %3AMT%3A12

If i had the money i'd love to do an LS7 swap, just over 500 bhp as a standard

This listing does not include the LS1 engine or T56 transmission, just the parts to make them fit into an e30 chassis.

And hes chgarging that much

May be thats the benefit of the dry sump set up ?

Not into a cab afaik. Anyway, its rarer than a small block chevy....and (ok I may be wrong, but) this project isn't about massive HP. Bootyman wanted something that would make people's eyes pop when he opens the bonnet. A nice BMW V12 has got to be it!

Hmmm. Some interesting ideas there. As for Fab, they seem to think everything they get in is made of gold and charge accodingly

As been said, the project is not not about silly bhp with the car spending most of it's life in a garage having things fixed or rebuilt. I need something in the 350bhp to 500bhp range, but attainable bhp and i also need the engine to have the wow factor cause the 1st thing everyone says to me when they see the car at a show is "What have you got under the hood?" Most are not expecting a drag car engine, but rather, a bling engine bay intune with the rest of the car and i want some horses for me to play with

Anyway i think i may have found something anyway. Dips showed me his secret weapon and it will leave you breathless. I just have to fin a way to get him to part with it now winkeye

Ho and we're not all mechanically minded so can we stop all this S485 & Y859 crap. Please speak English so we can all follow the thread

Not a fooking clue!! But imho a chevy engine can be dressed to such a higher plaine of detail and it looks breathtaking that some BMW V* with a mass of plastic covers over it.

And im thinking from a showcars point of view detailing is where its critical. Yes it would be great to have a BMW v8 in there but it would look so much more amazing to see a fully chromed out Big Block under the hood!!!

Someone said earlier in this thread that they are common engines. And yes that is true but thats one of the benfits. These engines have been around in their basic format since the first world war. They are tried and tested machines, ultra reliable and respond very well to tuning.

I am biased but imo its got to be a chevy all the way!

To be fair, almost any engine will look good with the right dressing and handfuls of chrome everywhere so it doesnt have to be a chevvy small or big block to do that... plus the torque from a big block would surely rip an e30 into a swisted mess! I personally think sticking German is the way forward as the 540 and 740 engines with the 6 speed manual has been done and we know can be done, and it looks the SHIT (also the e39 5.0ltr M5 V8 would be an option too) and they can definately be made to look good.

On the subject of the M5 V8, what can be better under the bonnet of a BMW than an engine thats stamped ///M... very little. If you pop the hood and they see ///M ///M written on both plenum chambers of the v8 then you know the reiger machine is powered by the engine form probably the best car BMW ever made! This would keep your thrust for sound happy, thurst for power well and truely fullfilled and bestof all, would keep the puritains happy.

IMHO - Go M5 V8 (e39). There is a zone who has done it so he will no doubt be able to help you through it all... and its cant be too hard if he did it on his own!

Depends on if you want to cruise or bruise.

All around, a V8 is probably your best bet. The Chevy is tried, tested, cheap and moddable. A bimmer V12 would be very special too.

But how about DA Mtorsport's interpretation:

Stage One

Stage Two

To be completely different, there is always the little BMW M12/M13 with some nicely done pumbing and a decent sized turbo hanging off the thing. The other advantage is that it gives you the ability to completely run your mouth at anyone in the world that owns a Nissan Silvia, WRX, EVO, whatever.

Owning a car with a genuine Formula 1 engine in it is also a decent claim to make around the bar.

Interestingly, a few of them seam to have fallen off the back of a truck recently, as a few builders here seam to have a number of them, including some brand new parts.

Going price here is around $12K, but thats more along the lines of 5000GPB. Build it yourself, with your own specifications. There is only one E30 that I know of running an M12 turbo, and he's done an M3 fakejob to top it all off. He did a few dyno comps down south with it, being rather conservative and keeping it under around 600HP for the first few months.

Some 2002 owners have pushed them much harder, on more volitile substances than petrol. Simple fact is its a genuine BMW lump, has masses of credit with anyone that knows what it is. Pop the hood at a BMW meet, and watch the crowd gather. Its a hero engine.

i think you need to decide how much you want to spend first ben,
and then you can decide which route will best suit your budget.

this is clearly what you want :)

difficult enough that everybody aren´t doing it
Sounds so sweet it´s ridicoulus,
low end torque as well
With great challenges comes great engineering.

That 3.8 M5 engine with 6 speed box is still available. If you think a 3.6 in an E30 is fast this is a different kettle of fish.

Which one is that Sal? Dont worry anyway. Once i have Dip's engine i will poo all over 3.8 M5's and it will look the nuts too. I just have to pesuade him to sell it to me or work out how i can steal it.

Anyone up for earning some dough winkeye

What engine has dips got? The V12?

To poo on an M5 is not an easy job especially the 3.8's. The arent much slower than the E39 m5's.

I'm not talking about his V12 mate. He showed me his secret weapon. A 4.6 RHD M3 cab, which he's mentioned on the thread about E30's owned in the General section and that car when done will run more bhp than a M5. I dont know about the torque side of things though. Anyway remember i was going the 3.8 route. Glenn was all lined up after Dip's V12, and the engine and gearbox was all sourced. 80k engine from a M plate M5 and the geezer started to play around with taking the engine out. Gleen came down and dropped Dip's car off and was meant to take mine but Mr engine man wasn't ready. He meesed us about for 2 weeks, and i demanded he took a couple of £hundred off the original price we'd agreed for Gleen to come down again as it was his fault. He refused saying he could sell the engine and box for more, so i told him to go ahead and put the phone down other wise my car would have been running that plant now. I'd budgetd £5k, but after chatting to Dips and putting pen to paper, we realised that to do it to the spec and look i'd be after will cost more like £7k to £8k. For that much, that plant wouldn't be my 1st choice
