Hello all, new to the forum and yet to purchase an e30 until the spring :(. but i may as well start my options flowing now.
I will be looking for an e30 for competition use mainly road rallying with a few track days/hillclimbs. For this I would be wanting to use a 4 cylinder engine don't ask me why but i just love a screaming 4 pot, Whilst out servicing on a rally this year i did spot a lovely 318is with a c20xe fitted and it went extremely well.

So my question is has anyone on here been down this route? are mount etc available? or would i be better off with a 318is engine. I am new to the BMW scene and not sure on the tune ability of these engines, most things i find tend to be 6 cylinder conversions.

Thanks for looking.

Yes it has been done, i've got a red top turbo in my e30, every thing will have to be a one off.if you can weld that will help loads. The main thing you have to consider is, how much you want to spend, i cut the spend to a tight budget, did not need to go dry sump route, so i removed the heater system and some of the baulkhead and made a new one along with trans tunnel, i've used a opel manta winged sump to clear the x member, used a pedal box from obp(they make a e30 floor mount box), as i used an omega manual box, with retropower's clutch spacer kit, talk to them about it, gearbox mount, engine mount's will need to be made from scratch, you will need to use landrover engine mounts, flat solid rubber one's to clear the bonnet, thats the short version, a lot of work but it's bloody worth it, you could also use a 2.0 ltr manual eco tech engine and box so no clutch matching of parts, cheaper still, good luck with your choice, i'm hear to help if you need info.
