I have sorted;

the exhaust,
the steering,
the suspension,

only to come to realise that the gearbox is completely shagged.

I believe its the input shaft bearing according to a bmw expert friend. clutch works fine and I removed the slave to make sure it was all still together and nothing had dropped into the bellhousing.

sigh.

new gearbox it is...

Oh and the previous horrific idle was due to a duff AFM :(

blimey how strange you ask... I dusted the car off on sunday and started working on this again !!!

I had stopped work to build myself a road car and have now moved back to the main project :D

I have given up with the red shell though as for one it has rusted out on the rear arches, and two - the sunroof needs plating. Although those things arent the end of the world it also would need painting and I have a 2 door non sunroof 316i sitting around which had failed MOT on the rear beam bushes and a screen.

I have a screen and have decided to swap the engine/box/susp/brakes etc onto the 316i shell from the red one.

I am going to take this car to germany (nurburgring) at the end of next month so need to get it together in a couple of weeks so that I can use it on the road for a week or so to sort any teething problems I may have before attempting to drive accross europe in her !!!

I will take some pics later this eve as I am about to go down there and do a bit more..

Time to pull my finger out and finish this biatch for some "ring lovin" ! lol...

Well, its about time I updated this page I guess !!

Here is the 316i non sunroof car which I used instead.
Image

It was stripped and the running gear from the red E30 was fitted...
It had no front seats so I picked up some sport seats on ebay as the fixed back ones meant only two of us could go to Germany and not three, not to mention back ache lol.

Image

The rear end has been swapped to the 5 stud setup...

Poor red car gets stripped :-(.

The engine is in :-), getting there now...

I bought these, my genuine M3 alloys are being refurbed...

MMMM, like braaand new :).

So there she is !
Image

Apart from an issue with the rear wheel bearing (I had to replace it) she passed her M.O.T and was destined for the Ring !.

Whilst leaving the ferry at france the sump hit the floor (I did not realise at the time but we had cracked it !). We drove on to the ring not even realising that we were losing oil slowly !!!.

When we arrived at sliders guest house we parked up and went to bed.
In the morning we went to check the car over before heading to the track and came out to the car only to see an oil slick going down the road. We were lucky to even have made it !.

So, we drained the remaining oil, cleaned up the crack with some petrol and applied some JB Weld !. It is still on there now and does not even leak a drop :). Great stuff. The guys from the guest house were absolutely awesome and helped us out wherever possible to get the caar sorted. A massive thank you goes out to them (Bren, Andy, and Simon).

All done and parked next to the resident Golf :).

Finally, the months of work and preperation were worth it ! The car was superb on the track, I did suffer some fuel surge from running with a low tank and the front only had -0.5 deg negative camber which was not nearly enough. But that said - the car was built in 1 month and was still being worked on the morning we left !

We also spotted this beauty at the track...
