i am new to bmws but local garage at rotherham said my engine is no good it is very noisy when i start or red line it ,
they suggested i convert it to a ford v6 would anybody recomend this they want to charge me £900 and would need car for 2 weeks does this sound right? or am i being ripped off
i spoke to garage in sheffield who said i could fit a 24 valve anos engine if i wanted more bhp or this guy said he could repair my engine with a shell ? for around £500
i am not very mechanical and would apreshiate some help on what to do

I'd forget the Ford V6 idea as god only knows how they are going to sort the gearbox issue, unless they are planning on using some old Capri v6 scrap, which weighs a tonne and has less power than a 325 lump.
24v would be the way to go, but depends on the capabilities of the garage and how much of a lash up they make of it

When dealing with a Bmw I think you should concentrate on drivability more than trying to make it faster, because these cars weren't designed to be fastest, but very drive-able.
Hence "The ultimate driving machine"
If your 325i engine is shot then you could easily replace it for a healthy one for about 4-500, fully serviced. Its all dependent on whether your e30 is a sport model or just a basic model. If its a sport model, I would recommend keeping it original, if not go 24v and get 2k ready for a professional job.
If you want a fast e30, then your best bet is to go with a e36 328i 24v engine(m52) engine.

any garage that advises you take out a 2.5 and put in a ford v6 is one to avoid, im a ford man initially and even ill say that the ford v6 would be pointless. its about the same weight and same power.
i have done engine conversion on the side before and any commercial garage that thinks they can do it for £900 are either making a loss or going to bodge the crap out of your car.
id run away from this now.
when you say your engine is noisy what do you mean? a lot of these engines make awful tappet and injector noise.

that makes 3 of us!! wtf are they thinking lol. the idea is rediculous, this isnt an escort mk1 or 2 its a bloody bmw, id also stear clear of any garage that came up with such nonsence.I'd run a mile from a garage making such a recommendation..
Good M20 is £300 and an afternoon to drop in.
as above adecent m20 325 pakage can be had on here from the 275 mark and be fitted in a day with ease. a well sorted m20 would make a much better lump than any ford shite. do the right thing.
if you are feeling a little crazy go for the m52 e36 328 engine swap, its great in an e36 but brilliant in an e30!!
A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better
