Are we talking M50 non-vanos cams here or across the board?

IIRC NV cams had 1mm more lift.

Ben is right, but the M50 NV ECU wont cope with the extra cc very well and will need chipping to give the best results

the M52 has come with some nice lookin tubular exhaust manifolds, will these be better than the M50's cast items?!?

Chips aren't expensive

Just 328i manifolds are much better

The M52 2.3 was actually a B25 with the intake used by the B28 detuning it. At least thats what I understand the 323i/523i to be. I'm sure there were other differences but as I am aware the intake manifold was one of the major ones.

Hmm, I am thinking of doing this to mine aswell now. Then again, I suppose the longer stroke will make the engine slightly less inclined to rev and as the car is supposed to be a track day screamer (in a 5 series?!) I might just leave it as the shorter stroke 2.5.

I'm sure that the 328 and 323 use the 2.0ltr manifold. If you see them side by side you can see the difference

I'm sure I was looking at a 2.0 M50 today in a breaker and the inlet manifold looked very similar to the 2.5, certainly larger than the crap I took off my 2.8

Is there any market for the 2.8 manifold & tb I took off the M52 Dan, or should I just chuck it in the skip?
:)

If you are very, very, very lucky you might just be able to palm it off on eBay advertised as a 'Sport' intake manifold, otherwise, skip :)

Sorry to dig this old thread up, but I've bought a cheap 323 lump. I understand it has 2500ish cc. I understand the Alloy blocked M52s were detuned units.
If I were to fit an M52 Vanos inlet (inc injectors), throttle body and ECU would I see decent power, or should I get M50b25 cams too?

Thanks chaps.

They are detuned with the inlet manfold, put an M50 inlet on to open it up.

Here's a thread that will help you

Just the M50 inlet, use the injectors that are on your engine (greens)

I've had the M20B25 in a techII and now have the M50B28 (in one of my chromies), which I assume you are still intending to build...

You will notice a bit of a difference, I'll say that much winkeye
