hi all
im new to all this so i apologise now for ne mess ups i make.

im looking at putting a 2jz lump in my 325i cab.

i could really do with some info. how much its gonna cost roughly, how hard it is,wot needs modifing to take this lump and also if ne 1 no's if there is a garage or specilist that i could get to do it for me.

ne info would me much appreciated

A-tech are probably the best bet.

IMO the 2jz is an incredible conversion but a waste in a cab.

There is another e30 floating around here with the supra lump in (not sure if it's a 1jz) might be worth giving him a pm (can't remember his name).

It will be cheaper fir the 1jz engine and just buy a whole car.

Yeah there is a mental 600+ bhp 2jz powered E30 on here, the username is ga7le or something similar.

I agree, a 300+bhp lump in a cab is an utter waste

You'll be into big money to do this swap, the 1jz as found in soarers will be a cheaper find, wiring will be a nightmare, not sure on the sump, turbos will amost cetainly be in the way of the steering column on RHD cars.

A fantastic engine though and the sky is the limit on upgrades

hi guys thanks for your help, is 300+bhp in a cabby wa waste cos of the chassis. i just thought that a 400bhp cabby is different. im not rele in it for a car to thrash round a track of back roads i want it to cruise. but your info is much appreciated :)

If all you want to do is 'cruise' why do you need 400bhp?

Just stick a m52b28 in there and save yourself some cash.

^ can't argue with that :D

Cab chassis is floppy with 170HP the extra torque will ruin the door shut gaps in very short order I'd surmise.

That said however, kingcruiser has put in excess of 300HP through his for a good while now, perhaps pop him a PM for his 1st impressions.

i have had the e36 328i and its ok but i want more than 193hp in an e30.

i could get more than that from a325i 12v with head work and cam couldn't i?

i've come round to a coupe chassis if i def go ahead with forced induction.

does ne body no of ne 1 who has done a turbo conversion diy stylie.

A m52b28 with the m50 inlet manifold and tb will make approx 220bhp, in an e30 it will be muchbetter than an e36.

so with the m52 b28 swap have you got ne idea of 0-60 and wot it will top out at. wen i ran my old e30 i had a 2.0 swapped it for a 2.5 with head work and cam. had a diffenent diff topped it out around 150. is this what i'd be looking at roughly with 2.8 swap

If you want something poky why not get a tin top and do it propperly?

A cab is for cruising and the best suited engine swap would be a m30 imo.

when u say properly u mean turbo or m52b28 swap.

a cabby is def my first choice wen u say m30 which engine. and dop u no a rough price for doing this swap :)

M30 is a waste of time IMHO old stuff for crusing in a cab you should either do:

1 M52b28 swap with m50 inlet etc

2 Tune the m20B25 thats already in there

Its all about budget and what is desired from the car.
IN my cab i had a tuned high comp M20B25 2.5 with a Cam 6 branch & 3:73 LSD it was perfect good cruising and if you wanted a little fun it was possible without breaking the bank.

My M50 non vanos in my e30 touring is as quick as my sisters R26r megane and will sit on the boot of a Focus RS up to around 100...so a M52B28 with a manifold swap, M20 Flywheel will be a real flyer...

Bearing mind my car is fully stripped out and has a 4.1 diff

How about building the 2.5 into a 2.7 or 2.8? Lots of torque then, and IMO the 12v lumps sound better than the 24v ones.

Disagree with you there Ant, i know you know your stuff, but my M30 has been in my cab for 18mths now and no problems with shut gaps.
Kingcruiser was running high power in his cab, and to my knowledge didn't have any problems.


@ Fowler, seems that everyone is now in the M5x club, Why???
I know its a newer engine, but as you state, 200+bhp in a cab, M30 is better suited due to the tourqu curve and suits the cab down to a tee
M5x has to be about 4k???? to get any sort of enjoyment out the engine.
Can the M5x cruise a 20mph in 5th?????? Think not. 8)

All those are the exact reason I sugguested it for the cab. While I wouldn't want one in my car, it is perfect for a cab. More power and torque than a stock m5x too and are really cheap to do.

hi all sorry for not messaging bk in a while. i've been havin a ponder, i think im gunna go for a coupe now, i just picked the new total bmw mag and see the cover e30 325i turbo with 307 bhp which i would be more than happy with reading through the write up and it sounds like it was done on a budget which is ideal. i was just wondering if ne body else has read this article. if so does ne body no if i does sound like it is on a budget if so a rough guess on price. the parts sound pretty easy to get hold of.

ne info would be great.

not seen the article so but most budget turbo set-ups end up going bang at some point if you are going to to do turbo do it properly and do it once !!!! :D
