bit more progress on the engine as iv been busy looking for a 5 lug setup for the front and a impossible task of trying to find a z3 rack.

anyway some more pics of the head all bolted down and iv put the belts on too.....

Image
Image

next stage is to get the engine and gearbox mounts ordered. and try to find the steering rack and 5 lug parts.

once the engine is in and its a rolling shell i can it mapped and the brakes fitted.

Very nice! 8)

Which ecu are you using?

I'm having nightmares with my Megasquirt, but only because I can't operate computers properly!
I'd be interested to see how you get on...

hmmm thats not good then as i was going to use a megasquirt. i wanted to run a 3 bar map sensor with it too to do away with the MAF.
i also have a Gems ecu lined up too as a backup.

thats goodnews about the rack though. whats the rough price for these? Z3 rack money?

£60 for mine. must get that part number right though, one digit different and it's a standard rack with no resistance. You'll need to fit a PAS oil cooler on the return line to the reservoir too, else the oil boils for some reason. same ratio as Z3 but with slightly more lock, 3.0 turns. mine's fitted in the rear holes with 7.5mm spacers above and below. Takes the E30 coupling and spline, just shortened to suit.

You're welcome! :) It's good to think it will potentially be used for such a fine looking engine build 8)

You need to be asking for an E46 330i sport rack, it's not quicker than other E46 racks but has much needed added resistance. These are all the numbers on my rack label. it doesn't come up on real.oem.

Yes it can but you have to swap 3 wires round for the heater fan and the eco guage to work.
Its all in the engine thread

You wont really have to, some of the guys haven't done this for Pos 3, all they've done is take off the Soundproofing from that area, and from the transmisiion area too.I beat mine, but didn't really need to.
But also some have beacause they have had too.

Only sure way is to put the engine in and see.

I bashed mine where the head sits but as Rav said its not really necessary just a precaution and its easier to do with the engine out

Ive coloured in where it needs knocking back

Oh right i see. So really I should just take the soundproofing off for now and see how it sits?
I still have to get some M20 engine mount bushes and a steering rack and the lump will be heading straight on in there.
Then charger bolted on then off for a remap. Yay it's getting there.

looks good, i would just remove the sound deadening first, you can always bash it later if needed.

have you thought any more about where the m112 is going?

Ya I'll go down tht route first I think. Don't want to beat it just yet

as for the M112 i need the engine in to see what space I have left. Can't wait for that time. I'm still thinking about havin a IC in the system. No space I know but how did you squeeze yours in baptie?

its a tight fit & involved cutting off the lower mountings from the front panel. the intercooler is slightly too thick, but it just fits.
