as the title says, its not something i plan on doing anytime soon as i have many other bits i want to do to the car first before i go chaseing power. But what i want to know is what will be the cheapest/easiest way of reaching my goal? I love the idea of fitting an SR20DET as thats the only part of my 200sx i miss  or would i be best off turboing the m20b25? or maybe even sticking a completely different engine in?

m20 + turbo and your goal is pretty simple

What are transmission losses on a car? 15%? If so, 300 rear wheel HP is going to be minimum 350 crank hp which from a standard BMW engine sounds like E39 M5 engine at least.

I reckon forced induction on the M30B35 3.5 litre, mainly because I'd like to do it myself. winkeye

Martin.

M30 will do 350whp so easy with just ARP´s as an upgrade.

can someone tell me more about turboing m20b25 for the kind of power im after, is it going to be hard work to get that or will it be relatively easy? i know it wouldnt be too hard from an sr20det im just tyring to figure what would be ebst for me money wise and reliability.

If you have a 8.8:1 engine then stock gasket + ARP studs.
Then a turbo close to 55mm inducer on the compressor should do you 300whp @ 1.2-1.3bar boost.

Rest is normal turbo stuff, intercooler, piping, ecu , injectors and so on .

This combo will have good reliability.

with mine the problem lay in the rear axle mounts needing strengthened and large metal plate the diffs bolted to cracking at the bolt holes.

personaly i dont go turboing a non turbo engine as it is so expensive to get a good engine with low compretion, guess you will need an old engine thats been round the world twice, then stick a turbo on that, engine management ect, double the power yipee lots of wheel spin fun to drive then bang the old tired engine lets go,lots of money to repaire, have you got the nissan engine, box already at home i would fit that think someone on here has done it so get looking. i have a GM red top turbo in my e30 not finnished yet,and hay, the turbo sits the other side of engine so no steering clearance issues, plus saab turbo engines fits the vaxhaul omega gearbox so very cheep turbo engine, gearbox combo £400 would get an engine, box, good luck dude.

Well in e30 land that engine would be a barely run in 8.8:1 m20 b25 for about £200.

2.3 turbo saab turbo engine with a vauxhall omega gearbox
volvo t5 2.3 turbo with volvo 960 gearbox
the is another option with the volvo ^^ thats a bellhouseing adaptor plate from volvo t5 2.3 turbo aka volvo white block to bmw m20 gearbox allowing you to retain bmw harcore box and exsiting diff ,prop ect ect
i am building an m20 turbo right now and its cost so much i nearly scraped it last week to go for the volvo option :)
both of the above can reach good power engines are cheap and plentyfull as are the hole cars the engines metioned from
i do have usefull links if you are interested in either of these routes :)
