and another insurance rant....
Moderator: martauto
I am phoning around to get the best price and can't believe how complictated the insurance companies are making this.
I was on the phone for about 50 mins to ONE number I called with put me through to the next one (which wanted to know ALL the details again) just to put me through to the next one (who wanted ALL the details again of course) just to tell me in the end that they can't offer me insurance because of my modifications.
But that's why I rang a MODIFIED CAR INSURER in the first place!!!!!
rant over (sorry...)
I can't believe the time it takes (and how many people can afford to sit a whole day beind the phone just for car insurance)
and how nervewrecking this is. Every single year the same.

it sucks to have to send the day doing it but if you save, £500, that's a good wage for sitting at home on your arse

What sort of insurers/brokers are you speaking to Uve?
As Marc said, the likes of Adrian Flux specialise in non-standard risks like this, forget trying any of the direct insurers like Direct Line, Admiral etc.

Try brentachre insurance

They were cheapest for me and only mods that affect the BHP affect the premium

yeah but in my case it was more like £500 going UP!gareth wrote:it sucks to have to send the day doing it but if you save, £500, that's a good wage for sitting at home on your arse
My car was on a classic policy since it was registered in the UK and actually you won't earn NCB ona classic policy. So whatever I take out now will start with ZERO NCB.
But thanks for the all the links and help gentlemen.
£690 fully comp and £52 extra for break down cover. But they want an approaved immobiliser.
Does anybody know if the BMW EWS will qualify?? Don't fancy getting a "fully trained and qualified" car alarm fitter under my bonnet making a mess with the imobiliser.....

Unless it comes with a certificate from the aforementioned 'expert'; the insurance company wont qualify it. Annoying.
I am thinking about getting a good quality alarm from ebay and fitting it myself, then forging the sodding certificate. Some come with pre-stamped ones too.. I'm like you, I seriously dont want some good hacking at my (working!) wiring loom under the dash and drilling horrible self tapping screws all over the bulkhead.
If I could get BMW to play ball and sell me a transponder chip (key) or two to match my engine I'd also wire in the start-kill relay in the EWS (It's currently just acting on the ECU comms wire, not the start relay) and use that myself.
Oh well.

Welcome to my world!
HIC look after me, I think it's AF's over arm, all the mods are listed, included the immobiliser which isn't certified.
Having all of the mods listed on the insurance doc really pisses off Mr Plod, being legal never felt so good!
My policy is 550 fully comp limited miles, breakdown cover is included.

I had the same problem insuring the S50 Uwe, the only comany that would touch me in the end was brent acre, I wish i had called them first, I think they are the easiest comapny i have ever used for insurance, and considering what i was insuring that is quite a suprise. Flux and the likes wouldn't touch me as I'm only 22
