Moderator: martauto
Hi has anyone changed the brake servo for a vw golf smaller one?
If so which one and problems encountered please as my one is too close (read rubbing) on inlet manifold!!!
Many thanks in advance
James

I'm using one from a Mk1 Golf GTI.
It's a straight swap, NO modification needed at all.
Pedal might be slightly firmer than it was but not enough to be a problem, in fact personally I prefer it.

Standard master cylinder fits straight on too, as do some VW ones and some other BMW ones.
Mine is turbocharged, I can't find the thread of the guy who's supercharging an M30 now, can't remember which section it's in.
I only saw it the other day!
If you have trouble finding a Mk1 GTI servo then some Mk2 (1.3 I think) servos fit as well as some models of Renault Clio, but I think you need to modify (lengthen..?) the pushrod for them to work.

Nah.
I dropped my Megasquirt round to Ant earlier and he's going to check that out for me.
If there isn't anything wrong with that I'm not sure where to look next!

Hi baurluvva, im doing the same conversion as well, but rather that going the route your taking the other optionwould be to change the engine mounts for either Ford Fiesta diesel or eccentric Bmw E28 engine mount rubber. There's a guy who has used the RHD Bmw items on his conversion. good luck |& waiting to see which option you take.

So you have hit the side of your brake servo?bigdek wrote:it doesn't.leeparkes wrote:I didnt think the M30 conversion needed a servo swap.
wee bash with a hammer at worst
Wont this affect its performance?
same as me i just dropped the engine on sunday and there wasnt a clearence issue with the manifold and servo.leeparkes wrote:I didnt think the M30 conversion needed a servo swap.
off topic...... howdid you sort out your exhaust manifold?
Smaller servo helps with fitting the heater pipes on to the stubs on the matrix.
You can also shave part of the seam off on the inlet to get a few mm clearance.

There is no need to swap the servo if doing a m30 swap.
If your doing a M50 then you have to swap the servo to clear the manifold

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!

mine fits in with no modification to either the servo or the manifold. there's only about 5mm clearance but it's never touched.
