im wanting to go down the forced induction route, would be willing to give my car to ant to turbo it but after reading a thread where someone s/c their m42 by there self was wandering if anyone has done an m40?.... i spoke to someone local to me and they said that my engine management would be ok to use if i dont go above 7psi boost, is this correct?, also what other components would i need to change/add so i can start looking.... any input would be most greatful as dont know too much about s/c....

There's 4 massive threads on what ya need bud
A way of cooling the charge air, the charger, I'd opt for new after market management (if you dont already have it?) as you can easily tune it to the enth degree, might want to look into uprated brakes, LSD, Larger injectors.

Snag is,the M40 does not seem to be very 'tunable',the links that hoshy(I must get some new tyres
)has posted refer to the twincam M42 unit, that is very tunable. The cheap(ish) way to improve an M40 engined car is to start with a better engine...either M42 or M20B25 or M50..

That said, Ant has built 2 turboed M40 cars that both owners seem hugely happy with. I think a S/C M40 could be quite a cool little motor if you don't go chasing huge power figures.daimlerman wrote:Snag is,the M40 does not seem to be very 'tunable',the links that hoshy(I must get some new tyres)has posted refer to the twincam M42 unit, that is very tunable. The cheap(ish) way to improve an M40 engined car is to start with a better engine...either M42 or M20B25 or M50..

well the thing is i currently own one of the m40 turbo's and they are great fun you can get 200bhp out of a m40 with a bit of trickery
due to the weight it feels like 300 and it great fun

thanks fowler, i think i'll have to pop up and visit you there and discuss this along with costs (possibly turboing it), possibly get some custom internalls made and see what power a m40 will actually produce.... what time you/ant there on a saturday?....

Ben, there no point strenthing the internals the engines are cheap enough turbo it at stock CR
you can give it 10-12psi all day long.
just need a slipper on the car for some real fun lol

well we will see soon, since the new exhaust the power delivery seems smoother but think the acceleration seems slower, maybe its just me lol.... have you made any progress on the conversion yet?, was busy working today and sorting my life out otherwise would have popped to see you....
