He was implying that you meant it took 6-6.5 seconds to do the conversion! Because of what you wrote.Rav335uk wrote:why, something wrong with my figures then???

WOW!6.0 to 6.5 secs is spot on for an m30 conversion
ROLF!!Shocked Do you fire the engine in with a steam catapult?
From what I remember you have to remove the front panel, place your M30 engine in the middle of the road, and then roll the E30 into it. Bobs your uncle M30 conversion done. Don't know how fast that will do 0-60 though you might want to go over them figures again!! LOL

You don't take the front panel off!!!LOL
All you do is hoist the thing in, dead easy
Mine took about an half an hour to put in with gearbox attached.

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!

well,
I am going the M30 B38, or 12v S38 route....
I am building it as we speak.
I am using an Early M90 Block to get the 94/95mm bore,
using an s38b38 90mm crank and rods, Custom LTW Pistons,
a later B35 Big Valve Head with a 290 Cam,
using the latter model Motronics with custom chip...
this set up should give me, a very solid, very reliable 300 HP/ 300 TQ motor and If I miss a shift, (money shift) I am not out another $4k USD to rebuild the S50/52 Head...
It will have more grunt than the S50 and will outrun it stop light to stoplight,
the S50 will have more topend but here in the states there are very few places to see top end speeds...
I have only posted here once or twice but I will keep you guys informed to my progress,
it is being transplanted into a '89 LachSilber Cabriolet with an E30 M3 5 lug suspension underneathe it.
Just thought I would say Hello from the Sunshine State of Florida, love your site guys!!

Welcome
, any reason you're not using the 24v head? Or is the big port head something you've just got to hand? Sounds like a cool build anyway, we don't seem to get many people N/A tuning M30s in E30s.
Not in E30s any more
I think it also depends alot on the exhaust setup.
I remember reading somewhere that the e36 328i back box sounds good on an E-M30.
I also happen to have one to my disposal, but the thing weighs a tonne! I do not to add all that extra weight. Curious to hear what it may sound like though..

The 24V head would require me basically to find a good low mileage S38, good low mileage ones are hard to find, and rebuilding an S38 is major money (over $8k USD).GrindCulture wrote:Welcome, any reason you're not using the 24v head? Then to fit an S38 into an e30 requires more firewall clearance and fabrication, a BFH will not get you enough room, from what I have read, it requires cutting and welding of the firewall.
My new motor will not have the high end/top end of the S38, but will pack more bottom end grunt and I can just use the mounts from e30.de and a BFH and be done with it.
I will eventually add the ITB's from the S38 to my 12VS38 but not right from the start. If you remember, The famous Hartge H5Sp Sport had them and it is possible, plus it makes an engine compartment look very sweet....
I am just not a Turbo Guy,
I have driven quite a few of them and Todd Dehate from TCD is a good friend of mine but I just do not like all the tinkering that a Turbo requires. Yes, they pull like a freight train I will admit that but I am old school when it comes to my cars I guess.
Thanks for the Welcome!!!!

Not quite.Cloud wrote:M42 - 1.8 from a 318iSblackcountrybimmerman wrote:Sorry for my ignorance, but which cars are these engines out of?
M42?, M50?, S52?, S14.....
M50 - comes mostly in 2.0 and 2.5, found in the E36
S52 - 3.2 from an E46 M3
S14 - 2.3 from an E30 M3
M30 - all sizes, from allsorts
S52 was used in the US spec e36 M3 and is just an iron block
3 litre M52.
The S50 in B30 and B32 EVO form was used in the european spec E36 M3.
The S54B32 was used in the E46 M3.
S14 came in B20, B23 and B25 forms and was used in the 320iS and M3.
Inacuracte information is pointless.
