My Turbo Conversion Updates!!!
Moderator: martauto
well its time for an update! I havent had much time or money recently to put into the project as iv been stuck doing silly hours and buying a house!
Anyway got a nice rebate from the tax office, the missus wanted a holiday, i disagreed!
So basically iv ordered everything left that was needed,
Oil cooler
fuel pumps
swirl pot (fuel)
lines
fuel filter
vernier pully and some stock bmw parts too that i needed for the rocker cover and things
So once it all arrives ill be taking some photos
In the meantime im going to xsport racing, www.xsportracing.com up in basingstoke, there heavliy into there bmw e30's and know the m20 off the back of thier hands. So the oil lines to the turbo, from the block and back are all going to be done by them, its just a case of calculating the lengths and fittings.

hey thanks mate, looking well its going down to ant to get the megasquirt fitted and a basemap put on in febuary. So im hoping it will be running then, and then all i have to is do everything for the mot. then hoping to get it fully mapped from there!
thanks!
thanks!
spent most of this afternoon sorted the postion of the intercooler, much happier with where it is sat now! although its not tucked right up to the radiator at least it will sit inline/behind the front bumper!
anyway, here we are, what do you think
some photos didnt work to well as theres so much smoke in the garage from the anglegrinder!

Looking brilliant!!!
Love the list down the side lol!
Those coolers are certainly popular no doubt I'll end up getting one. Can you share with me where you got it from?
Whats your plan for the suspension and brakes side of things?

yep mines a good ol egay ic....aswell as some other bay treats too
picked mine up off a guy who tunes skyline for a pint more then £50. when you can buy them new from the price they are there and get justify why people will spend fortunes on blitz/bla bla ones
suspension side........welll....haha
the car came with kyb shocks all round but once the thing is up on the road and iv got to know the handleing more and know what time of ride i want to go for i will decide but more or less coilovers at somepoint and defiently uprated ARB's as when i did drive the arse was more saggy then a 90 year corner hussie
brakes im still looking, theres so many different options out there, voager 300mm discs, g60 280mm discs, tt discs list goes on, and skyline calipers, rx7 calipers, 406/fiat coupe brembos, so basically what ever is cheap for sale im going to try and see what works. Just at the moment its all r&d till i get the engine sorted and running
hope it helps rix

Regarding ARP head bolts measure each one accurately with a vernier or multimeter measuring device the total length and gap between the threads over multiple points along the bolt; reason being if for whatever reason you need to remove the head in future if still within tolerance you can reuse them safely. 10mins doing this could save you cost of another set in the future!!
Screw them in by hand first with plenty of arp lube until they bottom out, you find some will not be exactly same level which case use a hex/allen key to help turn them in until all level (by hand only). If some feel loose in the hole not a good sign but ways around that.
Torque them up in stages try leave as much time between stages as possible pref over night each time, take your time!
hope that helps

Its all been pretty slow at the moment, as my second job is in a pub and over christmas its been manic so i havent really had a day where iv been able to do some work....
However i ordered loads of stuff so i now have all the oil system/coolers and fuel system to go in which will be a good days work.....
managed to swap a few things for a brandnew Golf R32 coil pack.... and waiting for more bits from Bmw and were looking like its on course for Ant in febuary.
Iv got a p&p megasquirt coming from the states, which in turn will save me money!

thats what i was looking at, to fit in the space infront of the rad and between the headlights but i do have plenty space between the rad and engine though so i could move the rad back and fit the mid size 660 x 300 in front. ill definately be calling him as they do look good and the price is very good compared to the usual cosworth scene coolers
Sorry its abit off topic phil
i spoke to some one abit back who was local to me and would nock a copy of a volvo one which fits with no mods for £440 all in ally which i though was ok but then the ebay cheap ness becond and the fact that i didnt mind modding the front of my car, have you seen these.

very simular to the above i think!

not a bad price to have one liked that fabbed up as a one off!
Iv spent all day fitting the fuel system in (ill get pictures up asap). Although i shafted myself with putting the Oil Cooler behind the drivers front light as i have no where for my screamer pipe to go. So now the oil cooler needs repoistioning again!
Just waiting for a few bits and bobs from bmw to turn up now, which is taking forfuckingever!
Anyhow, what do you guys make of these......
http://www.driftworks.com/catalog/produ ... uring.html
£400 od quid isnt bad for a set of coilovers, mean yes they wont be as good as say KW's etc, but at half the price its worth thinking about......
Looking at these just as mine is as saggy as an 80 year old....iv got Eibach arbs on the way, aswell as doing the usual bushes, just debating on these coilovers.....
anyhow on more news, supplier for boost pipes....anyone got any goodies???

so went into the garage to work on the car today, got as far as looking at the engine, and just thought, f**k iv got a long way to go.
I dont weather its just demoralising the fact that im waiting for bits and cant really do much until i get them
Thats a question, anyone got a diagram of how the water system lines are?
Its annoying, i cant do any of the front pulleys etc at the moment, as funny enough, there are no timing marks on the head or vernier pulley!
Thats another question, the cambelt tensioner how does it come off? Is it litterely brute force and yank the basted??
anyhow iv got to that stage were i want to scream out for help!!!
Rant over......

I got to the same stage with my last project. Hence the 'wanted' add in my sig.
Just stopped looked at it an though i just want it done and ready to drive. Weather was picking up to which was even worse as all the nice cars started to come out.
Its a real effort to do the job properly to. But worth putting the effort in or youll for ever have it in the bk of your head that you could have done it better!
Keep it up, be worth it in the end.

Stick with it Phill
I've been there before, left it for a few months, then found some motivation to get further on with it
I'm at that stage just now. It may be down to not being able to get the machining done due to work commitments or just because i haven't got all the parts needed yet, as I got side tracked for a while

I know what you mean Phil, i just fabbed the engine mounts for the saab turbo lump today and bolting the engine in place feels so good.
Every time i lose motivation and think of selling the bits separately i just think
a) i will have lost the battle and
b) if somebody else bought it as a project the thought of them driving it is painful.
battle on Phil it will be worth it

Make yourself a list dude, you can get straight in your mind what needs to be done, and you can cross things off as you go which is quite satisfying. I've still got over 45 things left on my list, but having a cuppa and a stare at it usually inspires me to get on with things
That and encouragement from people on here

I only have one thing on my list.
Finish it.

Just sit in it for 1 minute and make turbo noises pretending to eat an e36 m3 off the lights, that will give you plenty of motivation!
Building is the easy part! Fixing after it's broken is the hardest part, I have a spare tank of fuel and a match in the garage for when I've had enough!
List is good, otherwise I kept watching the TICCO vid for inspiration, I wanted that car/sound/performance so much I managed to get there eventually!
Just think, I've done most of it twice too, two Ms's, two IC's, two exhausts, two WB's etc etc
Once you feel that bitch come on boost you'll kick yourself for ever contemplating 'not' finishing it
