fozzymonster wrote:That manifold is a work of art! it'll do fine, need to keep housing size down as it's a side mount close to the wing, shouldn't be an issue, did you source injectors, oil feed, return and oil pan?

The M5 exhaust, do you have plans for it? I'm thinking the bore will be enough for your needs, just need to cut and shut it a little :D
Got the exhuast off the M5 today! Its massive i mean massive must weigh a good 40kgs. There is no way it will fit under a e30 either the rear box is almost twice the thickness of an e30 one no to mention the middle silencer and the 2 cats there's no fesible way i can see to fit it. We do how ever have a 20ish foot length of 2 1/4 inch tube we got to make our track car exhaust that matbe usefull.

I was thinking it needed chopping up first, then see what bits fit.

Ideally you want 3 inch or more, twin 2 1/4's would do well!

There is me too.... but Appletree is giving it a better go at it than me right now... time is not on my side as I am way too busy with work. The Rotrex has very different characteristics to the Eaton, so I'll be interested to see what Matt thinks of it when its done. Mine though I have a spare engine stripped and its having some handy changes done. But all will be reveiled once its up and running with a nice power graph winkeye When that will be mind you is another matter

Chopped up there wont be much left! the cats take up tyhe first third centre box the middle third and the back box last third. well we've got this pipe that can do the trick just need to accumulate the other parts

Is it going to be a track car?

You know turbo's work best with no exhaust at all, so if you can live with it you can have a stubby 2foot exhaust sticking out the wing!!

dont turbos need a certain amount of back pressure in the exhaust to stop the rear seals from leaking or is that an old wives tale?

DB inserts, 3inch are off the shelf, you can get internal baffles too, not measured db's on them but they do work. Turbo kills lots of noise anyway, mines only loud on boost, can be boomy tho at low revs.
A side exist will allow a small box and that should work well to keep everyone happy :D

I should also mention these guys have their own 'test track' which is plenty fun enough to not need to venture away, I know I always have a go when I'm there :D

I would have thought those decibel inserts would increase pressure in the exhaust system which won't be good for the turbo.

Would be cool to have something like that pathway in the video, but you must be mad to think that could keep anyone entertained for more than a few minutes!

You need to see the map, it's connected both ends to another straight the other side, like a test track, anyway it's fun and free aslong as you don't take the piss, there's a large patch on one side for being silly and two on roads that you can drift round onto the straight, the ground is patchy but you can still have some fun miles from any agro and there's spares at the end if you break something :D

Track days are too much money for me I'm afraid, I need the money for fuel and tires!

Always good to hear from other turbo'd e30's.
Count me in

I have a 89 sport with a m20b25 turbo

Low comp bottom end
Head work
Injectors
Highly modified 2wd saph T3
Volvo intercooler
Custom exhaust
Mega squirt management
e36 M3 5 spd box

Ant did all the work
runs sweet as. been really reliable too apart from i keep blowing igniton chips on the Ecu. too much time on the limiter in 5th. with my 3.91 lsd it tops out at 125mph. any ideas on a good replacement for not much dollar but'll be strong enough. any help would be top

Not saying you're wrong but there's been some pretty good evidence in the Fiat Coupe community that people who decat and/or fit 3" exhausts tend to end up with failed oil seals within a few months. It could be coincidence of course... but they're pretty sure that the Garret T3 needs some back pressure.

bullshit,
they are then using too high of oil pressure,
It is very usual for some oil systems to run too high of a oil pressure for a turbo. 0,04% of all people who install turbo´s check it´s oil volume requirements and oil pressure.

Get a 3.64 LSD it'll take the abuse and give 14o odd top end, 3.25 m3 lsd will give 160+ but it is long geared then.

I use a 3.73, works fine for everyday driving and ok top end!

I would use 3,25 with anything between 350-450hp E30´s
3,64 for 250-350hp

It´s more about using 2nd gear to provide boost in a specific speed range and good acceleration in the low speed range,

But a Fiat turbo has one as stock. Its unlikely anyone has been messing with the oil pressure to the turbo on purpose is it? I don't know the answer to the backpressure thing by the way, or care really!

then it´s not a good turbo is it if the seals can´t even hold 2-4bar oil pressure. :)

I have no idea to be honest
its going back into ants after xmas for a bit more work so i was going to time a new diff with that and a new map.
ant had suggested a 525e diff. its not a lsd thats the only problem. ill get little power down.
also what sort of boost levels are people running at. i have low comp and a uprated hdgasket. modified t3. its only running 11psi at the minute. i want hard but reliable boost

also what sort of boost levels are people running at. i have low comp and a uprated hdgasket. modified t3. its only running 11psi at the minute. i want hard but reliable boost
max your injectors with boost.

my 2,8 will probably need about 1-1.2bar to reach 400hp,
my 2.5 will require the same , but I plan on running the 2.5 upto whatever I get away with 8)
With great challenges comes great engineering.
