hi there, i have a old and tired engined 316 and have now got a 2 ltr 6 pot complete with loom ecu and auto box.
my car is manual and was wondering if i change flywheel from the16
a) will it fit,
b) how easy is it gonna be.
also other than the engine and box everything else i.e prop diff driveshafts etc is from a 325.
so other than the radiator and expansion tank is there anything else i am going to need to install the 2 ltr.
the plan is to take the car off road for a few months whilst i sort other bits and change the engine.
any help would be appreciated.
regards ajay

You currently have a 325 diff on a 316?
I don't think the m10 gearbox will fit to the m20 block but 'boxes from a 320/325 are not expensive to get hold of.
Any reason why you didn't go for the b25? it is a better engine than the b20 although if you got it cheap it will still be a massive improvement over the b16
Also you might want to rewrite your post, it's kinda hard to read
Cheers

hi chris, yes i got the engine very cheap.
the diff is from a 325 cab i broke last year, not ideal with the 16 but ready in preparation.
this is a very tight budgeted project.
basically i just want to get rid of the tired m40, and put to 6 pot.
i used to scrap other e30's on behalf of the powers that be but unfortunately was not allowed to keep engine or boxes hence the other stuff already fitted.
if anyone has a box for a 320 or 325 manual and wants to give it to a good home then feel free, but alas my budget is very severe due to a bike/ wife combo.

whilst the thought is a good one, again my poor m40 is dying for the second time and the 20 lump came up for exactly 1p with ecu and loom.
Being as i am skint that was the right time right price scenario.
much as i would love a 325 or maybe even a 335 i wont have the money to buy them this year.

B25 is defo the way to go but anything must be better than a weezing 1.6 (not a weezing 1.8 though, obviousley)
The M20 B20, whilst not being the pinnacle of all things E30 or automotive is a perfectly decent, usably engine!
Why everybody seems to think that it is worth nothing i still do not understand.
This fella has got the engine cheap, his 1.6 is dieing, are you really suggesting he should skip it and go and buy a B25 just because it is more powerful?

If you have a look in the 'for sale' forum, there are a couple of M20 engined cars being broken. You might be able to get a 'box from one of them fairly cheap, very good point raised earlier, you'll probablly need a six pot rad as well.
