Spent today starting to strip the 318is down to bare bones.

Revealed some worrying rust in a few places

Was a good learning experience though. I now know how the front panel and wings come off. We took the tinted screen out of the is and put it in doddys tourer... found it was very easy to take out... but a complete bitch to get into his as we didnt have the special tool thing... I managed to stab myself in the hand with a spanner 8O

And I got my new front panel, splitter, underbonnet cable tidy thing and a new fuse box lid. :woohoo:

Tomorrow we start on the mechanicals. (one of which is my new lsd :D ) By the end of the day it will be on bricks, ready and waiting to lift the engine out next saturday and go and put it in haths touring.

still plenty left to take off it yet... Once we're done with it it wont have any wheels so its being taken away by a scrappy friend of mine on a we pay you nothing, you pay us nothing basis.

oh hell yes, the vast expanse of upvc, the maisonettes, the red brick sheds and railings... not to mention the 3 council cars.

I took that picture just for you jon as I knew it would make you feel homely.

its not my toolkit... my kit is a draper socket set, and lots of random bits and pieces.

Doddys halfrauds pro one was very handy, I love ratchet spanners!

Oh and more leverage can be obtained with a jack handle and the small ratchet ;)

Worked a treat to get the bumper off. (you'll be interested to know it was a piece of cake.. much like my track rod ends... I seem to be gifted (or lucky) when it comes to parts that are supposedly a complete pig to get off)

Each end of the slam panel. It was nasty! worryingly not an mot fail, but in a crash a sh*tload of front end strength would be gone in an instant.

And the usual footwell/jacking point mess, along with the lower front beam or whatever it is.

Didnt get much done today through a combination of rain and problems getting the diff off... Rear wheels and discs are off, boot came off... that was about it.

But I did this.

Image

Got a bit over enthusiastic with the parking by ear theory... and drove into a big wall at about 15mph. Front and back

The rear took it very well tbh, not so much as a hint of a dent... the front didnt.

I am on 15's, honda civic fit 15's. With 45 profile tyres iirc. Much lower than they should be.

Those ones have normal e30 profile on them, no idea what and its raining so I'm buggered if I'm going to go out and look now.

The iS is dead.... well and truly so.

Took the engine out and the pedal box.

Then tipped it on its side to get the front subframe off. Its surprising how light an e30 shell is!

Then we set to work smashing it up, cant beat a bit of stress relief with a hammer.

E30 rear screen explode when you hit them hard enough, took me bloody ages to sweep up the glass that was all over the car park!

Doddy 'took out' the heater matrix in about 20 seconds flat with a hammer...

We dented it, lots, I wanted to burn my name on the side with a blowtorch but apparently thats dangerous in a car park full of cars.

Anyway, the pictures do the talking...

Oh and in case you noticed, it was sticking out of the parking space a bit too much.

How do you move an e30 that has no wheels?

Nathan - The wingmirrors had that weird peeling paint that some e30 mirrors seem to get. So they were destroyed with the hammer, probably after those pics were taken.

ric - My neighbours love me. I dont complain about their various criminal activities, abandoned boat trailers (see my post in off topic about the recent fire), ridiculously loud music, feral children etc. In return they dont complain about me doing things like this.
