Towards the end of last year I bought a little white 316i lux as a restoration project, the first stage is now complete. The interior is finished after many weeks of sourcing parts, much pinching of fingers, swearing and the occasional small loss of blood it has gone from this,

to this, The final pieces, new leather handbrake and gear lever gaiters arrived last week so a bit of glueing and a bit of trimming and hey presto.
I am very pleased with the final result.

Just a few more details, the seats are the BMW Recaro style out of a 325i sport and are almost as new. Just about everything on the inside has been replaced ( basically anything blue), carpet, rear parcel shelf, all four door cards, glove box, centre console (both bits), Knee panel under the steering wheel, gear knob, both gaiters and of course the seats. I have spent quite a bit of time sourcing them all. I was not to keen on the original blue, I think the black and grey look is much better.

Stage Two will be the cleaning of all the paint work, outside trim and the engine bay. All pretty mucky but sound. Just hard work needed. There is a small amount of discoloured paintwork to do but no real rust problems so not to bad.

Then Stage Three will be the mechanicals. Full replacement cam kit, clutch, full service, replace a few small items like heat shield, HT leads, battery and any bushes that that are gone.

Finally have the BBS alloys refurbed, new tyres all round, MOT,tax , insurance and then enjoy it. Should be good enough to put in a few shows hopefully. I don't think it will be finished this year though, probably next spring unless I can get a rush on, which is no longer easy at my age.

Big thanks to friends in the BMWcc for helping me source all the bits, my mate Steve Cooper for sorting me out with the seats, Keith Bridge, Guy Southern and Kev Royle for some of the other bits. Also a good source for a lot of the parts was Chris Warburton here on the E30zone, top man. It will probably be a while before the next update but I'll try to keep the info coming if people are interested.

Thanks for looking, hope you approve.

Cheers Steve.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. Fortunately it not a daily driver ( thats the 318is saloon) so I can do it at my leisure. No special secrets for cleaning Jay07, For all the plastic panels just soap and water, lots of elbow grease and some trim cleaner. If you can wash off all the dirt first then apply the trim cleaner things come up like new. Any tough bits I used a small nylon nail brush. For the seats, door card material and the carpets, 1001 carpet and upholstery cleaner and Zymol leather cleaner for the steering wheel. Just had to do some things a couple of times to get them clean but thats about it.
Cheers Steve.

Looks like new....
I'd get some tuffed mats in there to save with the carpet cleaning....not an issue untill winter now though i suppose!

Are you keeping it as a 316?

Yes I have some grey BMW mats for it and I will be keeping it as a 316. I want to keep it original. The sport interior was an option on the lux so the car is keeping its originality even though I have fitted a different interior.

There aren't many on this site that would've done that....most see the 316 simply as a shell to bolt their 325 engine into winkeye

Credit to you for keeping it as it came out the factory (engine size wise anyway)

Keep the pics coming! :thumb:
