I had some real fun yesterday, A day I won't forget fast.

I'll tell you the most of it but my english writing isn't always that good, so sorry for that.

07:00 : I took the plane in charleroi (belgium) to Rome Ciampino (Italy).
09:00 : I arrived there in my winter jacket and noticed fast that a winter jacket is mutch to warm to wear there, a T-shirt was just fine in lovely bruning sun.
09:20 : I and my friend are waiting till the owner of the 320is come's and pick us up.
10:00 : I say to my friend "where does that sound stays of an S14 engine", whe are waiting and waiting.
10:22 : I say "I here something", me friend "me too"...together yeah that's an S14 engine and what come's around the corner a lachsilber 320is!
We meet the owner and his wife and drive to his garage.
10:45 : We arrive at the garage, just before he let's us know what his favourite turn is in Rome and we feld it :D .
When we drove we heard or feld nothing bad on the car, suspension was good, just the diffrential makes a noice sometimes. We also love to here the supersprint exhausth. The interior looks just like new and very clean.
We get out of the car and check the car out, me friend looks good and uses his 30years bmw expirience.

11:25 : we find that the car is worth the mony, it's in very good shape, engine is good. Just at the left front we noticed that the car had a light accident and not so good repaired. But we can fix it. The owner told me he new that and that it was from the 1st owner. He wanted to respray the car but never got to it.
11:45 : We get the papers ready at the ACI agency and then it seems the car is mine! Knowing that it still has to do a 4 days procedure before all papers are ok and I can take the car home.
12:55: We get back to the garage and tell's me what other parts I can take with me:
- BC computer with 12 buttons, with wires and and all.
- 1st steering wheel (M-tech one but leather was bad and he changed it)
- Original Motronic
- 14 inch wheels in very good condition
- 14 inch tyres in good condition
- new holder for kabels of the "sparks" (I think)
- Airbox
- And more spare parts

13:25 : He takes us to A metro station where we can look and visit Rome.
But before that we searched for a spot in the sun to take some pics:

Little bump on front, the rest is still very good
Image

Here you see that the side doesn't fid properly.

rear:

Supersprint 10 years old:

This side I have to put some work in for a little repair to make the car perfect again:
Image

Interior still very good:

Image

The engine with his 164.000km on the clock.

Image

Here you see on the left of the holder that the mounting is broken but got this new:
Image

Nice 15 inch wheels with special brakes on the back:

Image

Front new but regular brakes.
Image

And then look at Rome for the rest of the day:

Image

Had to do this for my girl, throw a coin into the trevi foutain

Image

And with the heat a nice Italian icecream:

Image

0:46 I was back home and now I have to wait a week to get the car.

So next week this story continous because then we will get the car, this part I already have:

Belissimo! Car looks a bit of alright. What was the price? And the original 14" wheels - are they bottlecaps?

Cheers and good luck with it,

Thanks.

@: pal 318is: yes it was an awesome day
@: E30 Mark: Well I hope it wont reveal mutch but we know that the hit wasn't that hard because everything else behind is still original.

I never heard that before, I thought they were purely an Italian thing because of the 2-litre tax break, like the Ferrari 308 Turbo

Hmm... looks nice. Paint and repair to the front wings, removed the black edging from the doors, and it'll be a mint motor! 8)

Looks exactly like my old one.

I'd love another one!

Great write up too. Well done.

And yes they were also made for Portugal.

Indeed it needs a new paint, repairing the front wings and the black edging will leave too.
I prefer to take it all appart and make it a new one from bolt too bmw logo :D . Hope it will be possible.

In future I'll change the brakes too, that's the only thing that will be changed I think.

Owke the mission is accomplished! I've got a 320is and took it safely home! Here the other story "the roadtrip":

Sunday 13 January:

04h20 : I get up and make myself ready to go.
05h35 : I pick up my friend for the trip
05h50 : We arrived at the airport an wait till we can go on the plane
07h15 : We get on the plane and ready to go...but the plain doesn't leave, then we here the plane is delayed trough the fog in Rome to land.
Then we have to wait 1h15 befoure depart.
08h00 : They say that's it's safe and that we can go already
10h00 : We arrive in Rome and find a spot where the owner (Giancarlo)see's us to pick us up. I call and he say's that het will be there in 20 minutes.
10h30 : We wait but still no car, so we enjoy some more of the warm sun and this vieuw:

Image

11h30 : Finally the onwer of the car arrived (got delayed....Italians  ).
11h50 : We arrive at the agency for the papers, we see a 360 Modena. Giancarlo say's that the car is of the owner of the agency, it's a very good job there! We go in the agency and pick up all the papers.
12h10: We arrive at the garage the car is in. Giancarlo opens the garage and I see MY almost 320is standing there  .
We check everything again for the long trip....everything is good. Put the plates on the car, sign a buy/sell agreement and I give him the money. My friend took some pictures:

Image

Image

Then I drive the car outside, I feel the vibes through my body thinking I have a 320is!!!!.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then with picture the car is officialy mine!

Image

13h00 : We go to another garage and pick up some tyres that I can take too, they are new avon tyres 195/65 14 inch.
13h30 : We stop for a some Italian food with Giancarlo and talk some more. Then we are ready to go but first we need some feul for the car.
He shows us a gas station and we put 98 feul in it then making the GPS ready and we're off for a 1650km trip back home!

Oh yeah Italian people drive like crazy!! Glad I was out of there!

PART TWO:

Here the dashboard and mileage before we leave:

Image

15h20 : we drive by another E30:

Image

18h00 : No more sun anymore and I get used to the other gearbox shifts (R-1-2-3-4-5). Then we stop for some more feul and some more food.
18h20: My friend take's over the wheel and of we go again!
21h40: Almost the end of Italy and up to Austria we pay 39,20 euro's for the use of the italian freeway and then we enter Austria.
22h00 : Austria, we have to buy a ticket to use the freeway in Austria.
I get out the car in T-shirt but feel it's mutch coulder here and then I see snow....hmm just take my jacket.

Image

Then we drink some cofee and I get back behind the steeringwheel.
After a while we pas this:

Image

So it's possible to ski even with this abnormal warm weather.

22h45: We need some more feul so we stop again.

Image

Image

Here we where then on the GPS:

Image

Some more pics of the car:

Image
Image

23h30 : We reach Germany and leave Austria!

PART THREE:

We still have to go through 3 countries: Germany,Netherlands and Belgium. We did till then already 980 km.

Around 23h30 : The GPS sends us away off the freeway and trough some small roads in the moutains. All the way up and down and up an down an take alot smale and short cornes. I really enjoyed myself over there. Love to drive there and got very good used to the gearbox. winkeye

Around 00h30: I give the steering wheel at my friend again.
Around 01h00: We are not that far from home anymore, the rian convinced us :D .
Around 02h30: I take the steering wheel again, just some more feul and cofee. When we get in I see a flash, I look back and see a police car passing taking a picture of my plates. Hope they don't stop us but we are al ok so. They turn back and we leave again.
I get tired but enjoy the M-power and then we pas the Hockenheimring.
04h30: My friend again behind the wheel
05h30: We reach the Dutch boarder!! Not far anymore!

Image

05h45 : We see the sign: "welcome to Belgium" :D , Great we made it!
Just a few more miles.

06h30: We reach the home of my friend, he get's out and I go further home.

07h15: I'm home, put the car on the driveway get out just have one more look at the car. Go inside straight to bed for some sleep....mission accomplished.

We took the car home with no problems.....just love the E30 and M-power!

I hope you had fun reading this, it was a whole expierince for me!

I finnaly got everything ready for the Belgian homoligation. Had to go to BMW Belgium to get a paper because they didn't find the engine number.
At BMW they found nothing too, number is gone.
So they had to put the car on powertest machine (don't know the right name for it).

I had no problem because then I know how good the engine still is.
So the runed it for a test...loved the sound when the needle reached 6900rpm. The verdict: 131kw (184hp) at 6900rpm.
They people from BMW said that normaly it schould be 141kw (197hp) but I tought it was always a little less (192hp).
So it's a little less but I'm still happy and now the car is ready for the Belgium roads!
