hello all. i thought it was about time i got some pics of e66 on here. i built it from a shell when the legendary vkr finally gave up the ghost by ripping the rear beam mount out of the floor after a rather sideways manoever. i bought it as a cleanish 320 of a m8 for not very much and built this one. it was fairly poverty spec so after stripping it completely and sorting any rust it provided the perfect donor for this. i think the only original parts are.the shell, doors, steering column, dash and the headlining! the rest came from my old car and some bits i'd been saving over the years for just such a creation. i 've retro fitted abs, obc, maplight mirror, heated seats, heated locks/ mirrors, washerjets, cruise, rear blind, iS splitter, illuminated m gearknob lol and de spoilered it!
it's running with a 94 m50 2.5 vanos lump, e34 520 box, z3 1.9 lever , custom manifold and propshaft (see m50 developments), hartge exhaust, k&n 57I, hel stainless hoses all round (including slave cylinder) ate flowerdiscs with textar pads (soon to be greenstuff) kyb shocks, 17yr old hartge front springs, standard 318iS rear springs. and a 3.45lsd.
Every bush, bearing arb link was replaced using genuine bmw parts. in fact the whole car is all genuine bmw other than a porsche 944 servo and a peugeot 406 rad fan.
I built it about a year ago and it has now done 11000 miles since doing so. i gave it an inspection 1 the other day and all it needed was new rear driveshafts. they were the original ones from my h26 and had done over 200k. at least 60k of that was abuse by me so not 2 bad really. Overall it's as close to a new e30 as i could get. i sat down and worked out how much it has cost in total and it came to £1700 including the respray. not bad for a 'new' e30 hey. but every part was done by myself other than the respray and i don't charge myself labour!
As some of you know or can tell by the pics i now work as the mechanic at fritz bitz just outside wellington. rich had been on at me to go work for him for ages so i gave in eventually. as you can see from the pics it's ideal as a bm loving petrolhead. plus with looking at my car you can see i didn't really need a cv!!
A workshop, ramps, rolling road, a sound boss and a yard full of 80's bm's. perfick!!
this thing is pushing between 198 and 209 on the rollers depending on temperature and fuel. but an average is about 205bhp and 178lb/ft of torque on all the runs (there have been a few!)
This one is exactly as i wanted it now. other than aircon and mtec2 kit which i don't want it ticks all the boxes on the e30 specsheet in 88.
next project is eko's old 318iS (some of you may spot it) with 3.0 s50 running on omex standalone with 6 bike k&n's on the throttlebodies. e36 brakes and just 2 fiesta rs front seats.
well that and the pink turbo 325iX touring lurkin under the trees in the background! watch this space as they say!
right!! i think i've waffled enough! heres some pics

thanks m8. fritz isn't actually in wellington any more. we're just outside at a place called greenham.
follow the a38 out of wellington heading towards exeter/ tiverton etc. as you come up the hill past the beam bridge hotel take the 1st turn off right signposted greenham. we're the first building on the left after greenham industrial estate. theres no signs on as yet but there's usually some german machinery parked in the car park to identify us!
our parts department is huge and since i've started there is a definate e30 influence lurking about!
our phone number is 01823 674459 ask for rich for any parts/ querys or just come down and have a mooch.
theres usually some interesting stuff kicking about. plus if u want any work doing on your car as u can tell i know e30's inside out so anything isn't a problem. i'm going to organise an e30 meet / rolling road day there after christmas/ new year so all will be welcome!
be good to see you all!
jeez all this free advertising hey? i think he owes me a pint or 2 init!

Car is looking reeally sweet in those pics, Dave. When you going to sort the paint ding on your door? Then it'll be perfect.

Cant believe that you managed to convince Tony to part with those Hartges, every bugger wanted to get their hands on them. Looks cool and I know it sounds awsome too!

hello again. thanks again for all the comments guys!
unfortunately on the way to work on friday the egg's life was cut prematurely short when a rather nice polish chap called Bogusz Banaki (named n shamed) decided to pull out in front of me in a sprinter van when i was doing about 40mph
. the result was the pictures below...

needless to say i was gutted. i was at work till 1 am the previous night doing a few last finishing bits, new door lock, door switches, doorcard clips etc for this to happen 8 hrs later. but on the plus side i suppose i was lucky i wasn't injured which is a testament to the cars strength (how many 17year old cars would have stayed together this well??) and thanks to some mega heavy braking (handbrake included) and some accident avoidence (years of sliding) i managed to get away lightly. by rights i should have hit him in the drivers door! but that would have hurt and been a bit messy. by hitting it on the o/s/f corner i got away with just needing a shell, headlights, grill, bumper and washer bottle which fortunatly i have in stock with eko's old iS. so as soon as the insurance accessor has seen it will involve a lock in on the 2 post and a very high speed re shell!
pictures to follow as n when. i'd just like to thank. arthur at lambhill garage (picked it up for nothing!), rich at fritz bits (for keeping me off the point of crying when he turned up at the scene after hearing from a customer i'd overtaken on the way) and the 3 witnesses who were sound and had more of a go at the pole bloke than me.
btw check out the o/s track control arm bush in the pic to see how the shell bent. that and the stainless undertray which is also bent. surprising! but worrying as 10-15 years ago this would have probably been repaired. scary :clin:
well anyway. shit happens as they say. hopefully the insurance won't take long lol and i'll be rolling again by christmas. i'll keep u posted.
here we go again!!
iDreamBeemer wrote:Car is looking reeally sweet in those pics, Dave. When you going to sort the paint ding on your door? Then it'll be perfect.
lol ! that'll be on the new shell too!! least of my worry's now tho m8 init
i forgot to say earlier but theres some sweet pics of it here.

i like the spinning hartge pic. it's memory will live on!!

NOooooo

Life is such a bitch at times, just when you'd got it almost completely finished it. What a shame, bet the polish guy sh!t himself when he saw you get out the car somewhat "revved" up i would think.

Quite an impact by the looks of it, the roof is bent too, that shell is going to be weighed in for sure.

Once again, gutted for you dave, but at least you are ok. Report any whiplash tomorrow morning to your doctor.

yeah i was a bit gutted on friday m8. i'm kinda over the worst of it now. it could have been a lot lot worse. imagine if i had been on a bike!!!
car is bent tho init! but still starts n drive mint. just door issues, no windsreen washers,. a few sharp edges n the o/s headlights are out.
it should just be a straightforward subframe, interior swap . hopefully!?
i'm just itching to get it to bits now. my weapon of choice atm is an iveco 59-12 hightop van.
it might be 2.8 turbo and rwd. but not quite the same
NEXT!!!... :burn:

Phew, feel for you mate after all that hard work

Guess you can count yourself 'lucky' in that Mr Bogus (!) actually had some insurance - I'd guess that a good many Eastern immigrants don't...

Best of luck with the rebuild.
