Hi E30Zone people!

Thought i'd start one of these to keep a diary of the progress of E30 Touring drift build!

So i bought my first e30 touring about 4 months ago with the intention of using it for drifting, picked up a 325 touring for £850 with tax and MOT, welded the diff and off i went!

Image

That was it at Lydden, performed surprisingly well, after this it slowly got worse to the point where it was usable as a daily and i needed it gone, called a mate who breaks cars, exchanged some money and a few hours later i was the owner of a 306 diesel workhorse!

While i had the 30, i may have smashed it in to some solid items, so i'd sourced a shell on ebay, a last minute bid meant i picked up this gem...

Image
Image

For the grand sum of £110! Thought it was basically a rolling shell with no front end, after looking over it found it had an e36 rack, e36 m3 lower arms with polybushed lollipops and also had the front end, along with many other spares in the back of the car. RESULT!!!!

Image

It had half of a 1.8is engine with the box, no loom though except the lighting loom.

Image

Interior was also pretty good condition, although none of this is staying except the dash! And yes i was given a folder of history with the shell! :o

So it went in the garage, and i kind of just neglected the fact it was there while i looked for guides and others cars for inspiration!

And finally i pulled my finger out and did some stuff!!

Image
Image

Stripped EVERYTHING from the interior, don't really realise how much things weigh until you start getting them out, carpet weighs a hell of a lot! Only found one tiny patch of rust under the carpet which is less than a 1p coin which is good!

Next job is to get the sound deadening gone which looks to be a "fun" job, then i can paint the interior and crack on with the fun stuff!

So yeah, hopefully will be regular updates with this, got a long to do list!

Thanks for reading :D

I'll have a look at that in a bit pal :) I had an e36 before my first e30 and the 30 drifts so much better in my opinion, you'll love it mate!

So today, a strange yellow circle was in the sky and there was no water falling from the sky so i managed to spend a full day at the garage!!

Didn't get loads done, more looking over things and planning stuff, but got the dash out and all the sound deadening behind it, got the master cylinder and servo off as well. Also managed to unbolt the existing box from the engine, apart from that, the day was spent looking over things and pondering what to do with it!

So yeah, not massive progress, but not a lot i can do until i get parts and it gets painted. Should be moving to a small workshop soon though, so once this happens progress should be much faster!

So the aim of today was to get the engine and box out of the 30, pretty simple seeing as there wasn't anything attached to the engine anymore except the mounts and the box!

Image

So i then took that weighty sound deadening out as well

Image

So yeah, that is that, pretty much ready for paint now, which will be in the next few weeks, engine has been sourced and that will be being dropped to me within a couple of weeks as well!

That white shell has been about the zone for a while think a chap called alburglar (or something) took it round the nordschlieffe before hennared323i had it?

Do some searches on here there are quite a few pics of it, if you are interested that is?
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

All sound deadening will be going yes :)

Duke137, i'll have a little hunt for it now, the guy i got it from did tell me its been to the ring a few times :) Thanks

So i've now finally got all the parts to put the engine in the 30! Also got a compact rear subframe so i can go 5 stud all round.

Engine should be in and running on the last weekend of this month which will be a treat!

Nice project fella.

I'll be interested to see how the compact rear beam makes the rear wheels sit as I'll be doing a 5 stud conversion on my next Touring.

Cheers pal, they are "apparently" the exact same, so shouldn't sit too differently, i'll post up some pics when done!
