The latest car added to the collection, bought with the intentions of bringing it back from the brink and getting it back on the road to use as a daily driver/weekend toy before selling the others.

I'm by no means a purist and I know my plans may not appeal to everyone's taste but I welcome all opinions and advice from those more experienced and knowledgeable then myself.

Picked up on Thursday and taken to it's new home for the next few months  a couple of pictures from collection and the main 'problem' areas identified:

When the car was collected it was full of water so first things first dry the car out!

next on the list of things to do is remove the stickers and begin welding up all the troubled areas.

Ok so I've been busy on my days off and with the assistance from some good friends I've managed to get the car into a position where wiring can be sorted before the engine is ripped out and the shell attached to a jig ready for welding.

I'll let the pictures do the majority of the talking...

Image
The Mrs behind the wheel, as a result of lots of loose wires courtesy of the previous owner the car suffers from parasitic battery drain and so needed jumping, as can be seen from the white smoke out the back the engines not the healthiest at the moment but it runs.

Image
Just a selection of the loose wires just left hanging about, you can see where some of these have started 'fusing' :S

Image
Quick video of the engine running, a little bit ropey but its going to be removed and replaced with a healthy 2.8 lump

Image
Drivers seat and dashboard out, the foam insulation layer under the dash was sodden and moldy it literately peeled off in slithers, made sure to disconnect the pedal box etc to remove it from behind there. should hopefully stop the rust spreading even further! Note the moldy water seal on the drivers door, this cars a biohazzard!!

Image
Eurgh!

Image
Fresh side profile of the car, stickers have been removed as have the water filled wing mirrors :|they still work so going to allow them to fully dry out before refitting. Note the centralised wiper blade...

Image
Rear heckspoiler removed along with the badge, condition of the heckspoiler leaves a bit to be desired so i doubt that will be going back on the car.

Image
Looking very plain... for now...

Image
The aforementioned central wiper, have no fear this will be done properly with a converted regulator and arm when the time comes, as the car currently sits the entire wiper assembly has been removed.

Image
The very sorry looking 320i lump, this will be available for sale soon as spares or repair/service.

Image
The remains of the under bonnet insulation, any suggestions to get this off? heat didnt really help so thinking thinners of some sort...

Image
Rear toolbox is non existent so no need for the foam here anymore, the lug will be going next.

Image
Better picture of P/side rear well, not as bad as it looks at the moment.

Image
Better picture of D/side rear well, as you can see some rust to be sorted.

Image
Rear wheel well isn't in too bad condition, looks as though someones tried to jack the rear with it before however :( no worries, it'll be coming out when the welding is done :P

Image
Image
Rear inner arches and top mounts look in good condition :)

Image
Apparent rust behind the license plate holder.

Image
Spoiler had obviously never been removed to be cleaned.

Image
Few marks over the bonnet, look like sun cream so should be relatively easy to remove, badge has since been removed. Also need to beat the lower bumper back into shape in order to fit a splitter.

Image
EXPLOSION!!! Note the lack of seats means can see straight through :P

Image
Moldy moisture seal removed, door looks healthy beneath.

Image
Now that's gonna cause a headache...

Image
Rear seats, quarters etc de-tarred just needs a wipe down with thinners to remove last bits of residue.

Image
Pop outs FTW!

Image
The easiest bit to remove, even found a socket piece when picking it out of the void :P

Image
More weight saving... both inner and outer arches are going to need welding.

Image
Drivers door moisture guard off, the doors full of broken glass. confidence inspiring... :o:

Image
Drivers foot well ventilation.

Image
Interior battery tray, this is as a result of a leaky battery outside at some point in the cars life and the very sodden foam on the inside...

Image
167522 hard, hard miles.

Image
Rest of drivers well isn't too bad :P

Image
The result of a wing mirror full of water, note to self dont have toolbox open underneath again :(

Image
Previous owner thought a super awesome mod would be to stick a BMW badge to the passangers door, obviously they saw sense and removed it... along with half the paint resulting in this

Image
The DIY repair to end all, lets stick the scuttle back together with body filler 8O

Image
Better pic of the battered bumper.

Image
Guess that means time to de-lock

Image
Image
Image
Front passengers sill :S

Image
Rear passenger arch and sill.

Image
Ooh whats this? bamboo scaffolding? why??

Image
Tada!! Manual window conversion.

Image
Full electric setup will be for sale soon, wiring included.

Image
Battery tray doesn't look too healthy as expected, new battery is going to be mounted internally :P

Image
Air conditioning, oh wait...

Image
We all like 'THE GAP'

Image
Sunroof panel removed in preparation for the cassette to come out.

Image
Image
As it sat at the end of the last day.

Next weekends plans are to remove the cassette and sort all the wiring :P wish me luck!!

It is a rust fest yeah, I'm sure it's not the worst out there though and I've seen worse cars be repaired which fills me with the confidence this one can be saved.

Lots of major work needed, cars going to be completely stripped and jigged in order to make locating and repairing easier, February is optimistic assuming I can spend every free minute down with the car working on it.

Unfortunately I have a 1 series I'm trying to get on the road and sold as well (failed thermostat and water pump) so we shall see, I don't have a time limit as I have a clio as a daily driver which I can use for the meantime.

So long as it's on the road by next August for the annual 'Ring trip I'll be happy.

Think I'm gonna need the luck but I'm technically minded and a jack of all trades master of none and that hasn't failed me yet, the car was bought to be a project car so the amount of work doesn't put me off.

Where abouts are you? we shall have to meet up once it's in a roadworthy condition.

Thanks for the advice! :D
