So a bloke rocked out outside my house on Saturday and drove away with a lighter wallet and owning an e30 m30. Mine

So now that they e30 has gone I was looking for a new project. Sunday morning went and looked at an 87 e30 coupe. walked away and just need too much work, then went and looked at an 1980 e21 323i. Walked away the new owner.

It has been sitting since 2007 but it a great colour and last night was delivered at my house. It obviously needs alot of work. But last night gave it a quick wash and went on the rust hunt.

This will be sorted soon but am pleased to say that she is pretty solid. Plans for the car, i dont know. These are the options.

1. Take her back to completely original.

2. I have a 2.8 engine with manual box from an e39 which could go in.

3. Build up a 2.7 stroker as have available an eta engine.

4. M30 it.

Opinions and thought are much appreciated.

M30 , it'll suit the car.
TWR M30'd these things in the '80's with good reason.

Don't bother with M50/2's as they tend to shit themselves easily.

So I am looking into the M20 2.8 stroker. I am sure there is one, but i just need to search. If someone knows of a good link to a build thread of one please link it to me.

Cheers Nick

Here is a novel suggestion ! Why not keep it stock, tidy it up and replace anything that is fooked . Who knows you might even end up with a saleable nice car and make a profit ! , unlike if you go down the engine swap route .

Option one, but if you feel to play with it work with what you have, some head & cam work with properly set up injection can work well, maybe a 2.7 crank at a push

^^^ This.

That's a gorgeous motor, go for a full restoration and you've got a great show car on your hands and a decent investment.

My two pence.

Well you will bne pleased to hear that yes the wheels are going. I have some stock e21 alloys being couried up from Melbourne. The wheels are horrible.

Last night i removed alot of the trim pieces and rubbed them down and gave them a coat of satin black. These have now all been stored away so they dont get damaged during the works.

I am going to take the car back to standard and then if i decide later to do something with the engine then i will look at it then.

I am off to look at another e21 on saturday morning as it has a period recaro interior. The interior in my car is pretty much shot. So this could be a good doner and also is a 5 speed so might swap it over.

I shall update with photos as i go and collecting welder tonight so then the project can really kick off.
