Today's new purchase to replace the E36:

It's rough around the edges but it's rust free which is the main thing. Needs a good interior/exterior clean and a few bits sorting.

What you think?

Chill out guy's, it's running Megasquirt MS1 :)

Previous owner did the conversion, i'll tidy it up when I get round to it, make a cover and that.

Apart from that and the rear Tech 1 (which is going), it's pretty much original.

It's got an upgraded Z3 rack and a brand new roof fitted, bonus !

I'm going OEM with this one

Always the optimist Pete :D It handled the 130 mile journey home okay.

First thing to sort out is the dreaded oil leak :(

Cheers pete, another ques tho..

It has a tech1 rear bumper? and a 'jimmy hill' lip? is that the correct bumpers for a pre faclift MS

On a side note the paint looks lovely and its all one shade, plus the interiors in good knick

wtf, is that thing stuck to the top of the dash?

Tech 1 rear bumper is not original to the car, the original one rusted (no suprise there) and replaced instead with a Tech 1. I'm going to find another pre-facelift bumper to put back on, want to keep it looking as original as possible. Jimmy Hill is also an added extra I think.

Paint is original, just needs a good damn clean. Trims need taking off and sorting out too.

I have no idea mate  Dash is proper faded so is coming out to get flocked or replaced with another one.

You wanna see inside the boot !! Its totally caked in the Black Death hammerite with added waxoyl, its everywhere , all sticky and horrible under the carpets, a shame , and all around by the glove box hinge brackets etc and bottom front wing area was ropey

I had a good look at the car but walked away , engine leaks galore and iffy shakes/wobble in the drive, bearings maybe

But it was a straight car, but a bit of a dog needs a lot if tlc

Hopefully you get it sorted out , rare car

Going by the engine bay install, I reckon it is rolling about in the spare wheel well and the positive lead is resting on top of the carpet :)

Not feeling the love for Megasquirt on this thread! :chuckle:

I 'found' the car for the previous owner on here, and nice to see that it's gone to a good home. 8)

Oil leak getting sorted first, then I can sort out the rest, Megasquirt staying for now at least.

Battery is in the boot, replacing the weight that's normally in there. I will post up a picture of the cover made for it winkeye

Not sure what the rear headrests are off but I have a stash in the garage so will get the right one's put back in.

Going to strip it down completely over the weekend, i'll post up the results :D

Bit sh1t at the moment, I think the tracking needs doing, also fanbelt needs replacing.

Sounds like the exhaust is blowing as well now.

It's responsive when given a good thump though

Bear in mind that the previous owner is a computer fanatic and programmer, so naturally, had to install a fully configurable laptop-controlled ECU on his car!

Nothing wrong with MS, as long as it's properly built and set up correctly; the problems arise from a lack of understanding of how it operates.

If it were mine, and I decided to keep the MS, I would at least seal up that electronic unit next to the bulkhead, to keep the water out!

Can safely say that's kaput, think it's original so done well to last 25 years. Need to replace it now urgently as the car sounds awful :o:

Couldn't get the 2 pipes to come off where they join the other part of the system, any ideas? I've tried hammer and chisel with lots of WD40 but no joy.

I had this issue yesterday, with a length of front exhaust pipe jammed in the rear length. In the end, after trying WD40, various levers, Mole grips, etc., I had to elongate the slots about half an inch using an angle grinder, then it popped right out.
