I am kinda thinking it may be worth while just painting them or getting new ones....

Warm them with a heat gun. Do not melt them just play the heat over them.

As I have the buttons I may test that out.
It works on black plastic. I do all the trims on later stuff that goes white / cloudy?

great thread, replacing them does look perfect, i painted mine and they looked ok but not perfect like yours
