As the weather was so nice today, thought it was a good time to get the sponge out, scrub her down and take a few pics.

The missus wasn't too keen on having her picture taken:

Given the gorgeous weather i thought i would give th motor a clean and take some more pics.

Unfortunately, the track to the parents house was still a little muddy and kinda spoiled my efforts.

The winter has been hard on the chromie and just keeping it on the road has taken most of my finances.

I now need to replace both sills as the mix of rust and poor repair jobs is really starting to show through. Dont suppose anyone would know a rough estimate of how much this sort of job would cost?

Cool car 8)

Mine went into a BMW specialist in January for some mechanical work and sills to be welded, ended up needing jacking points too and it cost £200 for the welding, £40 to strip and refit the interior.

Cheers man. £240 sounds very reasonable.

We had a closer look earlier and a good bang around with a screwdriver and big spanner. The sills are still pretty solid, so I'm going to take a sander to them next weekend and see what its like underneath. The damage is mostly to the poor repairs that were carried out a few years back:

The rear valance, however, is not looking quite so tasty. After a few prods, i started to lighten the car a little:

That last picture is gonna be a good wound mate... I've just grinded mine back and a 1x2 inch hole turned into a 4x6 inch hole...

But dont let it put you off, its just welding, just expect to find loads more before your finish prodding

I'm sure i'll end up cutting 6-8 inches off it. Luckily for me my dad is a welder/ fabricator by trade so it shouldn't be too much trouble to patch after.

I have looked at cleveland panels and can get new sills for less than 30 quid each if mine are BER.

It might even give me the opportunity to finally get the tow ball removed after 6 months of looking "I'll do it later".

get that bloody mud guard off and don't refit.
That is a really nice car and reminds me of my first three 325's all early cars and the best i have owned the later cars never went quite as well or were quite as perfect in terms of overall design consistency.
that is worth spending some money on with a proper bodywork guy to get right.

Tiny little bit of work done.

Done a little bodgery on my blowing back box. Welding was shocking and still left a little hole, so covered the whole bodge in a bit (read: alot) of gunk.

Then polished her up with some Auto Glym Resin Polish, puts a stunning shine back on the faded paint. Bit of a shite pic:
