It's one owner from new, 56,000 miles, service history 99.9% standard apart from rubbish wheels.
I must admit, I was a bit jubious about the mileage as I bought it from a 'classic car restoration' dealer and the history is patchy... So I thought only one thing for it, I went and knocked on the previous owners door. The guy was O-L-D!! He came to the door with a drip in his hand, breathing air and more technology attached to him than the car has installed. I asked him about the car (feeling slightly guilty that I'd made the poor guy stand up) and he said that he bought it new for his wife in 1989 and gave it to a local garage with 53,000 miles on the clock, didn't tell me much else and I didn't want to keep him standing at the door...
So I went to the local garage he gave the car to and they knew the guy quite well, said they got the car in over a year ago, was a good straight car, gave it to the classic car place almost straight away.
One of the owners of this place used it himself for a while which is where the extra miles came from then the cambelt snapped. They done all the required work and put it up for sale where it sat for ages until I came along. Gave the guy 1k plus my 11 owner Golf Driver.
Covered nearly 200 miles so far and it's been running lovely. Had quite a good poke around and it all looks pretty clean. The only rust I can see is a bit about the size of a 10p on the sunroof. The full toolkit is still in the boot complete with hazard warning triangle and celephane wrapped first aid kit. There are a couple of bits to sort (wheels, sagging headlining etc) but I love it so far, don't miss the Golf yet (the missus still has her Mk2 anyway).
Anyway, I've got a few questions which I'll be putting on here when I get time along with some more pictures of the car but for now, here it is:
