Meguiars all Metal Polish, New anti-corrosive technology locks in the shine. NXT All Metal Polysh cleans, polishes and protects all wheels, stainless steel exhausts, chrome air intakes and valve covers, aluminium, brass, copper, silver and all other bright-work components. Meguiar’s Microscopic Diminishing Abrasive Technology (MDAT) removes built-up oxidation, tarnishing and staining faster and safer than traditional/harsh abrasives.

this is the description. best of both worlds aint it? autosol is good but a bit to abrasive and is a pain in the ass. heard that stuff works a treat?

Don't go using TFR on the wheels either to clean the brakedust of, all you normally need with this is a bucket of water and a sponge to clean the wheels.
Best way to apply this is take all the wheels off, clean them "PROPERLY"!!! and then seal the whole wheel.

No jet wash either or you'll end up removing the sealant.

I used a nanolex sealant, hope it does the job. While I didnt have lacquer to get rid of it still took ages polishing the lips on my borbets.

Also get some pre-cleaner or what ever it's called to get the metal perfectly clean and free from grease spots etc so the sealant can adhere properly :thumb:

Finaly got some free time on my hand so i thought it best to start to tackle the old girl.

To start off with, the rear beam bushes needed a little TLC (in other words are fucked) and by TLC I mean smash the hell out of them for 10 hours!

Image

Sooo it begins.

Image

Tools and bits of my hands everywhere!

Image

Dont know how but managed to get these out free of charge (shame the rest made up for it)

Image

Like everything else it seems, never been changed since new!

Image

Exhaust gonna get cleaned up and painted black (thats if theres anything left after i scrape the damn surface rust off)

Image

Coffee break, cant see, but my knuckles no longer have any skin left

Image

After many searches of the zone and my very own tech help thread, this heap of ********************* let go of the car lol! ONE WORD 'EMOTIONAL' got an nice little lsd to slot in here.

While i'm waiting for my bushes and my bank balance to build up, i thought i'd get rid of the rust that is creeping out of the old bird. knew it had some bad spots so werent suprised when i saw this-

Image
Image

Look at the last pic, some tard had just stuck a patch over some serious rust... GOOD JAAAB BUDDY!

Need to get a replacent boot shizer before i cut out the old grot from there, but started on the battery tray.

Image

ooo i like a good gaaap winkeye

Thats its for today, bloody rain made shore of that!

I swear by this stuff when polishing up aluminium and such, once you've done the wet / dry paper to about 1200-1500 grit.. this stuff brings it up to a mirror finish:

Not a great image, but this is what it went on:

My advice is to not give yourself a hard time over the project as a whole but try to set reasonable deadlines each week, say 50% of everything you do is timed to your ability i.e 'I want that bit in and sanded by Sunday lunch so I've time to apply paint/protection properly' :)

That boot section needs cutting out of a good condition model. It wont be facelift, pre-facelift specific for that part of the work. The boot does require a bit of measuring up first due to the unwieldy replacement section but it's quite easy aside from that.

The other boot part above the light looks a bit fiddly. I'd be cutting that out of the same good car.

Looks like a fun project. Keep updates coming! 8)

would be nice to find a car near me with a clean batter tray section but as we all know these cars are almost impossible to get with no rust. i'd probably have to cut up ten cars before i found one good enough to steal the battery tray off! the boot bit should be ok to find because ive never seen one with bad rust like mine there.

oh and a little tip, go out and buy new seals for your number plate lights, rear lights and the actual boot seal. pretty shore thats why mine is rusted becuase of fooked seals letting the water in.

I know the feeling, I started my project with a job, had some money saved to more of less finish it. Between getting bits here and there I should just manage to pull through and come out with what I want but it can be hard deciding what to get and what not. At least your being kept busy and going insane of boredom.

Did I post this link in your thread already? http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.c ... read=70135

you should get some inspiration and confidence from it if you needed it :thumb:
