Looks a very original and nice example. Enjoy it, they are a nice drive.

I had a similar one and found it to be a pleasent thing, if a little bit buzzy on the motorway.

Depends how much crud is on the mounts. Some OE mudflaps are only held on with clips, some with clips and grip clamps, and some are bolted to mild steel brackets that sit right in the line of fire and rust away to nothing. Also clean out the inner arch lips - it's amazing how much crud can sit in them, holding moisture against your bodywork.

I'd also get as much of the boot trim out as possible, along with the boot seal, just to be sure there are no small perforations allowing damp in.

I doubt you'll find anything horrifying, but a little inspection and cleaning now gives a lot of peace of mind later when running one of these old buses.

was nice when dan pointed out the things like the original bmw floor mats, the boot tidy, complete tool kit even with the spare bulb, as being rare items...just made the car that little bit more nicer, im happy ive got a really nice example, im looking forward to really getting to know the car, and e30s !

i also look forward to meets and shows next summer, and meeting a lot more members

I have never ever ever seeen an IS with kind of milage is such perfect condition. They bodywork was totally mint in the important places and when the guy started it up I've seriously never heard a m42 run that quiet.

I asked the guy a few question about the head and he then explained it had a big arse rebuild so the engine is running like it's only like it has 20,000 on it due to a brand new BMW head and parts. Needs a very very good clean as when I was doing the arches there was crud in the lip of the arc but you could small the rubber from the flaps and rvrn the bolts hadb't really start to rust. All the 4 wheel arch inners we there , not a single one was broken or bent out of shape.

Inside it was brilliant , still had the genuine BMW mats in it with the plugs to stop them sliding and in the boot a full tool kit ( bar plastic bit ) and the toy box in the back. Still has OME Kenwood speaker on the rear shelf. Only issues was the spoliers needs to be refitted and the front IS lip need a rapint but not life and death stuff.

The only car I know that is remotley this clean and orginal is Diddlers 4 door ( As I still don't barry to talk to face to face or his sport ). Seriously if you gave it a hair cut of 100k you never would guess. I think it will get a lot of intrested at the next Portsdown hill meet end of this month.

I did mention about the tyres and I think you may be worth getting 4 of the same brand if you can as I don't trust the P6000's on the front and you might as well get 4 new ones as the rears were ditch finders. The spare wheel was mint with a nice Continetal tyre on it.

Also get that engine bay a good cleaning , just put a plastic bag over the fuse box and some TFR on the rocker cover and a good blast and then use a good polish and take the time to polish in there. Wings were all bolted and straight and the scuttle was all mint and orginal and the same colour. When I was checking the oil it was still very nice and fresh. I tried my hardest to find faults that would be of concern and in the 7 years I have owned and driven e30's this has just totally shocked me with how good it is. Yes strong money but fuck me worth every single penny as it wont lose any of it.

Was nice to see my chromie , the IS and a tech2 all in a line together, just wish mine wernt covered in so much crud from the roads! Just take it easy in the wet and greasey weather like you would on your bike untill you get use to the back to stepping out and controlling it. Welldone Fella :D

nice post dan :D

im very happy with the car and happy i paid good money for a very good car that im gonna absoloutly love, and after you mentioned the finer bits all being there, like the mats and all the other bits, and said you couldnt fault the car..i was just very very happy, what a car, its going to be magnificent once ive sorted the minor finishing touches it needs

il post up a load of pics tomorrow once ive cleaned it all

what is TFR ? for the rocket cover ? will i be able to get it all looking really nice and polished ?

be nice to meet the local lads at the portsdown hill meet, see their cars and see the views on mine 8)

i have a pressure jet washer thing, is it safe to use that on the engine ?

to do list to make mint and complete...

paint front lip bit
sort the rear spoiler 100%
get a trianlgle and 1st aid kit, can anyone on here help ?
get a new torch , as the one in there has a bit of tape round it and a crack
get the headlight ajusters working
get the wheels 100% and get a set of decent tyres

if anyone can helo with any of them bits get in contact

its f**kall really !! :D

also....what was the original stereo that would of came in the car ? can one easily be sourced ? anyone got one for sale ?

would it be possible to get things like the original dealers number plates and tax disc holder like when it was brand new ? , as i know the ford lads do this

also...should i put waxoyl underseal stuff around the inside of the arches etc ?

and finally.. should i get a bmw specialist to service it ? how much would this cost ? and is it needed ? and what level of service ?

il go through all the history and service book in the next cple of days and piece it all together and post it all up

there is a spread sheet the owner i just got it from, made himself, from all the reciepts of the previous owner plus his, put it all in order of what was done/date/price

and since 2001, the car had had £13,200 spent on it, with the reciepts all here

8O

im gonna go to bed now, soon er i crash out, the sooner i wake up and get to work :D

polsta, your enthusiasm is great to read.
TFR , Traffic film remover is an engine cleaner, Halfords or any motor factors will
have it. Good idea to attend the Portsdown hill meets, good bunch of lads down that way.
They,ll be able to give you any advice you need.
Good looking motor you have there, good luck with it.

It's not really strong money, it's more the right price for a top example imho. It's far more economical to buy the best you can and yours looks a cracker!

My friend bought a WLN car for 'strong money' and made a little money on it 4 years later after thoroughly enjoying a great trouble free example of an e30. It sold in 3 days to the first person who looked at it. Value motoring for sure.

With regard to tyres, I got some Toyo Proxes on mine after many people on here recommended them.

I took my touring out for a spin on the old tyres when I first got it and ended up facing the wrong way round on a dual carriageway so be careful if they're shot!!

Good luck with it, I do like is's.

Looks mint!

cheers fella, what are them tyres like performance wise ? and how much for a set for my 15" bbs ?

after having a nice look around the car and cleaning it today, the conditon came through how nice it is , looking closely at the boot seats and carpets, a nice upholsetery clean to remove marks and grubbiness, its all going to come up like new, like felix said...you could take 100k off the mileage and you certainly wouldnt notice and think it didnt look right, i really cant wait to get to work on it tomorow and polish the interior up !

ive seen some of these sell with asking prices of 1800 odd in the last few weeks...but with things like worn/torn seat bolsters, i didnt want that, you also have to wonder would these cars come close in terms of the caprpet wear, would they of had the things like original mats with the clip bits, imaculate arches, the front arches have the plastic protector bits, the boot tidy plastic thing, etc etc....

im starting to think that once ive sorted the to do list, on the 1st post and te cars 100% clean, its going to look absolloutly amazing and 100% complete, and its looking like a good investment really , a lovely example of these cars, that just needs a few hundred spent on refining it and completing it,and nothing major at all

what members on here have got the nicest 318is ? ...like the very best ones ? to hear their views on how this shapes up to them, or could shape up once completed ...which il get 100% over the winter all ready for the summer !!

i know, looking real close theres only the odd mark that will clean out, and just need some sort of really stiff brush or something and justa few little bobbles on the rear seat, a little bit of time and a nice clean, they will really look like new

the condition of the interior and 180k, really goes to show how looked after and loved the car must of been by all previous owners, looks like its never been smoked in etc, or even had kids in the back regular etc, its fantastic , i cant wait to get a new air freshener tomorrow and polish it up....just so it feels and smells really fresh and new !!! :)
