Time for another small update. Happened to have a bit of spare time to myself (which is rare!) so i thought i would fit some of the box of new parts i have accumulated.

First up was another OEM option or should i say part of it. The Heated mirror, washer jet and drivers door lock pack which would have cost you £86+Vat in '89. The part of the pack i have fitted is the heated mirrors which is a very easy upgrade!

The only parts needed are the mirror glass for each side and the specific wiring loom for each mirror. With some careful soldering and crimping you could modify an original loom as the only difference is two wires as seen in the pic below.
This also means no painting needed as you use your original housings.

Image

As i had removed a pair of heated mirrors from a breaker, i striped them and removed the looms but unfortunately the heated mirror glass from them were both open circuit so in the bin they went. A new pair were ordered up and for those of you who want to know the difference see the pic below, you can see one has a heated element on the back of the glass.

Image

Here is a pic of the mirror stripped.

Image

With the mirror housing refitted and wiring plugged in it was time to check power to glass connections. With terminal 15 switched on (Ignition position 2) we have battery voltage present so we were good to fit the glass.

Image

Once fitted, with the terminal 15 on switched on for 5 or so mins with have the temp seen below.

Image

Just the heated washer jets and drivers door lock to go!

One of the other parts i got round to fitting was a pair of engine mount "Stoppers" which are basically metal cups for the rubber engine mounts to sit in. Now every M20 engined E30 i have had plus various others i have worked on have not had these. I dont know if they are some kind of technical update or what but judging by their design, they limit movement of the rubber.

Here is the nearside one.

Image

So that concludes this update but Santa Pod is a couple of weeks away so some serious peado action is required soon!

Not surprising you say that about the Cups for the mounts Barry, everyone who's looked into my engine bay always asks where I got mine from, had them from day one. :D

With Santa Pod upon us it was time to begin the prep with a long overdue paint correction. Yes paint correction! Since the car was painted over 4 years ago it has picked up some swirl marks and a few fine scratches that needed sorting so Steve (Powelly) came over last saturday and did the business after a wash and clay.

As you can see below it has picked up plenty of contaminates since it was last clayed over 2 years ago, the roof and bonnet being the worst of it.

Image

The man in action.

Image

After Steve had done the business with a rotary and some 3M products, I gave it a coat of Victoria red but for the bonnet, Steve kindly let me use some Zaino products to see what i thought.
To say i was impressed is an understatement and its something i'm certainly considering to use when the Vics red runs out (i am happy with the vics though), the only drawback is the cost of the various Zaino products needed to get the best out of it but i guess you get what you pay for!

Sadly the sun had disappeared by the time we were done so i couldn't get any snaps outside and its been back in the garage since but here is a couple of crappy iphone snaps of the Zaino'd bonnet.

Image

Image

I'll take some more pics on saturday after the final prep is done for Pod.

Big thanks to Steve for this! :thumb:

Was a pleasure, it was such a shame the weather turned rubbish, we should hook up again and I'll do some more on the sides.

Thats an unbelievable finish on the bonnet 8O What zaino products did you use, or did you just use the victoria wax?

I need to get some new wax becuase my collinite 476s is pretty much empty (which I love at the moment!), im defintately interested to see what you used!

Zaino all in one, Z2 with ZFX finally Z8. To be fair Zaino is labour intensive but the results are first class and I'm yet to find anything as durable. To set yourself up with Zaino will cost about £100 but that will last far longer than a pot of wax because you don't use much.

I can get the sides as good as the roof and bonnet, as you know paint correction is not something you can rush, the results are worth it though.

Yes, guessed they would have been a modification early on possibly during production.

I ordered new mounts from the dealer back in 2008 and they didn't come with them, probably because a gave them the part numbers for rubber mounts and the cups have a separate part number.

They do not even say "in conjunction with" on ETK.

I know. I fitted them to your sport!

I'm not into concours. I appreciate the work that goes into getting a car to that standard but for me i like them to remain useable.
