That its 2.7 lump. I decided after 103k miles and 23 years in action it was due a rebuild, so i have replaced it with a HC M20 B25, until i can find the time to carry out the rebuild.bss325i wrote:

thats lovely
Update time!
I have started the rebuild of its c2 2.7 lump:

So far i have stripped the head down, had it pressure tested, light skim and a couple of broken studs removed.
Its a genuine Alpina head with the correct numbers stamped as shown:

What i need some help with is an identity of its camshaft.
Its in excellent condition, no wear at all, and all the followers etc are genuine bmw, so no pattern parts appear to have been used at any time.
It has two seperate red bands on it, and the following numbers cast into it: 264, and B3
On the end of the cam other numbers are visable:
05601, e5, 7200
Sorry about the poor photos:

Any alpina experts help tell me if its a genuine c2 2.7 shaft?

I gather that the 323i had a 264 degree camshaft. Being an early chromie Alpina, maybe your engine is based on the 323i mill?

Thanks for the reply, thats an interesting point about the 264 stamp, but my car is a C2 2.7 based on a 325i.Speedtouch wrote:I gather that the 323i had a 264 degree camshaft. Being an early chromie Alpina, maybe your engine is based on the 323i mill?
I will try to find out more about alpina's cam spec.
Alpina Cam's are 268 degree.

Time for a bit of an update!
Went to the e30 owners show in Athlone last year and a nice chap took these arty pics:

In the mean time ive been busy rebuilding its 2.7 lump, it was looking rather sorry for itself:

The bottom end all measured up within tolerance, so bores got honed and the crank got a polish.
New mains/ends/small ends and rings were fitted along with the usual oil and water pumps, new oil seals etc, and i lightened the flywheel.
On its way back in:

And home sitting at TDC:

Im now working on the cylinder head. Its been pressure tested, skimmed and had the obligatory broken exhaust studs removed. The valves are lapped in and fitted with new stem seals and im deciding on which camshaft to use. Either the 'original' one pictured above or possibly a schrick...
