Well
Spunked a shed lot of money at the dealers on lots and lots and lots of new shiny stuff for underneath the car, heres a little teaser for now.....

Hmmmmm lovely, would you believe this little gem is a type 188 diff cover of a E36 Z3, with bush and was a whole £25 quid cheaper that the standard E30 one.
Gonna look great on my 2.93 LSD form my 525E fragger
More later

Well been a busy bunny today, been in the garage for about 7 hrs
Lots of hot drinks and food provided by the good woman to keep me warm, garage floors are quite cold this time of year, even lying on some old boot carpet
Ermmmmm....... Misano Red

Still have the bodywork metal bungs to fit, should be at the dealers on Tuesday

Won't see much of this area once the new exhaust heat shield is fitted, yep coming Tuesday.....

Oh, and had time to sort the 2.93 LSD and couldnt resist temp fitting the new backing plate to see what it looks like.
Sorry for the crap photos, i aint no david Bailey.....

Lots more of underneath if anybody is intersted, sad i know.

Pictures were taken at night, are very bright, and at quite close range with the flash of course.
When the paint was going on it looked fine during the day.
All the minty new parts, by that i mean all new parts underneath where available, plus the black powder coated suspension will give a nice contrast i think.
Plus it was either that or black, wouldnt have been able to see anything then.

Either red or beige it would never have looked factory, not with the way the cars were painted.
Dont like the idea of beige thou.
Its much better than it was, bits of red, black and beige, oh yeah plus all the rusty bits as well......

You'll have a fit now, cause i'm doing the arches red as well

cheers man, im looking forward to it
do you see what i mean now about it being very very hard to get a factory look to the underside no matter what you do, your pictures of the before illustrate that perfectly.
all red was the right/best decision

Was'nt too sure about the red before, but took the plunge and ran with it, pleased i did now. Coulnt have replicated the factory finish, its a little different now.....
Should have the minty rear beam bushed up tomorrow, and ready to go on in a couple of days, just in time to have a rolling shell for you.

Dont get me wrong, its a vast improvement over the previously scabby underside.
I just would (and am going to) have gone for a more oem look.
Its not impossible.

the cars should be body coloured under the arches
i also agree with matt, there is somehting perverse about a clean underside thats clean enough to lick

I'm sure that it will look great, remember you have a very desireable future classic, and that finish would complement it in keeping the factory look.bss325i wrote:Dont get me wrong, its a vast improvement over the previously scabby underside.

Mine on the other hand is a tarted up moredoor with a few morsels that happens to have a rare paint finish.
I know which one will be a museum piece in 50 years, little clue it aint red
I know that Paul, just airing my opinion.

i agree its not impossible Baz but they didnt intentionally apply any particular finish to the underside at the factory, you got beige underseal which was coloured by any paint which happened to find its way under there during painting the shell.bss325i wrote:Dont get me wrong, its a vast improvement over the previously scabby underside.

if i was going to the extent of painting the underside then i would go body colour as that provides the best contrast and after all the effort i would hate for no-one to notice it had been done.

Looks stunning underneath.... Im hoping to finish mine underneath this year as I have done the back already.....
Agree with Beardymat, why put all that effort in if it might be 'overlooked'....... Think of it as OEM+

Paul that looks great ! I agree with barry it's a bit bright, but once all the bits are nailed back on underneath not much red is visible,The_Diddler wrote:Well been a busy bunny today, been in the garage for about 7 hrs![]()

are you going to underseal over this ?
the diff looks superb with a new back plate fitted
Yep i know this, and thats how i would want it to look. I think people would notice the the underside had been done judging by everything beeing brand new and the floor pan being clean.beardymat wrote:i agree its not impossible Baz but they didnt intentionally apply any particular finish to the underside at the factory, you got beige underseal which was coloured by any paint which happened to find its way under there during painting the shell.bss325i wrote:Dont get me wrong, its a vast improvement over the previously scabby underside.

Great work - I prefer Black underside / Underseal. Because when you do bolt everything back it will look uniform and consistent.
