placey wrote:a 'lawnmower' engined 316i will leave a great many cars behind and can be a real challenge to drive fast - they're all about conservation of mometum.

speed is as much about driver talent and ability as it is about cubic capacity, that's why motorsport can be so compelling. i'll get my 316i round a series of bends quicker than any 325i because the 4 pots handle better - so what is fast? anything's only fast for a given set of conditions.

nobody buys an m40 316i for it's pace, instead they're about cheap purchasing, cheap insurance, good fuel mileage and the ultimate challenge of keeping the tappets quiet.

so why not make a 316i look good/fast? it's only as daft as making a 325i look fast rather than buying something faster.

after all, by todays standards the e30 325i is not a fast car.

AGREED ^^^^

owning an E30 (to me) is about owning a cool, retro BMW that still has a lot of the BMW charm that seems to be lost on more modern BMW's, i don't care about speed, it just looks so good and a lack of weight means it's fun to drive, my early 320i makes me smile every time i drive it

And bummer about your car man, the whole front end comes off the E30 so as long as the main chassis rail isn't bent, you can fix it

the car will be soon on a dyno, not impressive for UK-people (read E34 M5 turbo, E36 turbo, V8 ... - powered people) but I am curious, I ordered zimmerman brakes and they should ,be there in 4-5 weeks, once they are there I will go on the dyno when I pick them up winkeye

new update, it's still 316i, but the engine still runs like new, so i decided to keep it in stead of the M44 swap.

just bought a new camshaft, and still looking at some differt chargers, like EATON45

Iirc it's based on the lacica delta integrale. They were available from an aftermarket supplier with a direct fit. It may even have been from Reiger

thanx, it is a long project... still 2y before I can start the engine... but I hope I can make the engine project as good as the car project winkeye

the bonnet was based on a Lancia Delta and aftermarket available in the begin '90.

I was lucky to get one, i just made it a bit longer to come over the headlights

The bonnet is for sale for every good offer, I want a Carbon GTR

Why the wait to do the engine ? Is this to do with age / insurance or just Belgian bullshit politics :D

I am a big fan of the rear lights?

where can you buy them, or are they custom made?

Belgian law, you are not allowed to chance anything... KW coilovers was hard enough... This is also why i dont have a 300mm bbk with 5x120 centers

When the car is 25y you don't need to go to mot anymore... Don't search the logic behind this law  but it means you can change anything, including the engine
