I will admit there are certain roads i wont go down as i once got sort of stuck once, went over a hump and it started to scrape the belly
Reversed back off it and ended driving on the pavement to get out
In everyday cars such as the Golf i got its better to bomb over them at 40mph,hardly feel a thing!

Running like a dream after i secured the exhaust today!
Still slightly blowing from the rear downpipe but only very slightly..
Ran it bled it through..just sounds like i need to re-do the tappet adjustments as it sounds a bit too tappety for my likings!
Got a few updates coming sometime this week so keep a look out peeps !!

Update time peeps!
Got to replacing the diff yesterday as i dont think the original small case 2.0i Auto diff was up to the job
lol

What it is being replaced with:

And in!

And while i was at the rear i decided to freshen up the brakes..I considered painting the calipers but not planning to keep this brake setup for too long so didnt see the point!

Fresh backing plates

Just waiting for the front springs to come then the front end will be overhauled aswell

INSURANCE TIME AGAIN PEEPS!
Ok we are here again..feels like Deja vu!
Trying to insure the 3.5 is turning into a nightmare AGAIN!
Mainly due to the pending accident i was involved in recently
Like i said before i am POSITIVE some force is trying to stop me from driving this car!
My current insurers Footman James wont touch me due to the size increase of the engine.
Adrian Flux are going to call me back as they are unsure atm
Sky insurance was prob the most helpful thanx to Luke! Great guy and he knew exactly what i was trying to insure! But they were a bit on the expensive side
Performance Direct have given me the cheapest quote so far but said it needs refering and they can only do that once i accept..and if i accept the price could then go up
which makes no sense to me!
Being honest is expensive!

Why is your insurance affected by an accident caused by other drivers?
Have you tried explaining this to them when applying for quotes?

Ok so as i was phoning around for insurance this arrived
(cheers magpie!)
so i got to work!
Rubbed them down and sprayed them up, would've went down the powder coating route but as ive said before im looking to eventually go coilovers so no point wasting money on these!

While they where drying i took the struts out and removed the lowered springs

and while the struts where out i gave the turrets a good Fertaning!

Also replaced these knackered steering rack gaitors

Replaced the wheel bearings

and got back on the springs

Now the N/S/F went back together no problems
The O/S/F however didnt
I can see why my brakes where so S*@T now
Nice n seized!

and also a knackered and seized outer balljoint for good measure

So now im thinking of gettin them both second hand to get her roadworthy and uprate everything in the very near future..

Just as well you discovered that dodgy brake caliper and pads prior to hooning about with the M30B35!

Im sure i got a couple of old lower arms about but not sure what the balljoints are like, im sure one side is good but cant remember which
Problem is when you change the arms you need to change the lollipop buses too unless you can get them off.
You could just change the ball joint if you have access to a press and they aint that dear off ebay.
FWIW I paid just over £100 for a pair of Lemforder arms from ecp last year.
Cool update btw

Thanx guys
Maurice: I knew there was a problem with the brakes from the start, they didnt feel right which i put down to the brake fluid and possible servo/ master.. its true i wouldnt have wanted to find that out the hard way trying to stop that big lump of metal lol
Lee: I've got the M3 lollypop bushes at work to go on these but i was planning to get new arms and do it all in one..ideally i wanted to do them in the near future but i guess ill be doing them sooner than i expected lol
I think i will go with a second hand caliper unless i can get a brand new one for not many pennies as i really want to upgrade the brakes sooner rather than later..
Jim: Yea nearer the end it keeps feeling like i'm taking 2 steps forward and 1 step back lol
I keep imagining getting the top down and taking it for a good drive..Not long left man!
Glad you guys have been with me through my journey through this thing! On the home stretch now!

You could always get a caliper repair kit. Try soaking the caliper in vinegar for a couple of days - this de-rusts them quite nicely, and may free off the piston if it's stuck...

Im considering it as i used to recondition calipers in my old job and im no stranger to them, i was just thinking more of a straight swap..Speedtouch wrote:You could always get a caliper repair kit. But now im going to be waiting for arms to get delivered (the arms are much cheaper from CarParts4less) i might aswell look into it

I don't know who you're speaking too at Footman James but I'm covered for a highly modified track E30 320i M30 conversion AND an E32 750i converted to manual AND a slightly modified E23 730 AND a boggo E21 316 for £515 for all. This is a group policy but I can't see how they can't cover yours if they covered my 3.5 conversion.

Hi Robor, how old are you if you dont mind me asking?
I phoned up as an existing customer asking if i could insure it as a 3.5 after the conversion from a 2litre and they said the increase in power is too much
I was going to phone up as a new customer n try like that to see if i get a different result as maybe they couldnt be bothered to go through the procedure..
This plus my pending accident isnt helping!

Have you tried Hagerty classic car insurance? They were good for me with a Tech 2 325i Sport and Minor Traveller.

I'm 28, 11 years driving, all NCB used on another car so no gains there, my fault crash back in 2012 so I still have to declare it, clean license no convictions for anything etc. I've has this BS about going from 2L to 3.5 with a previous E30 so I understand your pain. My policy is linked with the special vehicles department and is a classic car group policy, so maybe it's using an underwriter different to standalone car policies, hence not being available for you.
Brentacre are good for such cars too and they have a 15% discount scheme with the retro rides forum
might be worth joining and getting quote if you're not a member!

Brentacre also quoted me very well with the same group of cars, including the E30, but weren't as good as Footman James.
Brentacre are good for such cars too and they have a 15% discount scheme with the retro rides forum

basically im going to get shafted untill this accident is cleared then it should be reasonable after that.. (always something!!
going to bite the bullet and go with it for this year and hope it gets cleared sooner rather than later then ill amend my details, because like i said ive come too far to stop now.. and its nowhere near the £5,000 quotes i was getting before so F*#k it!!
Anyway in the meantime these will keep me busy!

got the m3 bushes to go on the arms too and i thought while im there might aswell get the A.R.B links too!
Like my dad always says "If your going to do something do it properly or not at all!" Thats my motto in life lol
