Well today i was over in Epsom and just thought I'd check somthing.

pulled the dipstick out and what did I find? The oil levels about 10mm ABOVE the max line. And the oil is like p1ss. So I dropped a pool on the bench and wiped the dipstick and dipped the oil can for a comparison. Chalk and cheese!!!!

Left index finger into the sump oil and the right index finger into the fresh pool. The sump oil STINKS of petrol. I got the wife out there ansked her to just sniff both samples to be sure. First thing she says is, "thats petrol"!!!! :?

Basically it's dumped about a litre of fuel straight into the sump! Thank F*CK it never started! Bore wash would have been horrendous

So meeting Si tomorrow at the ACE for a spare inlet fannimould complete with injector rail and pressure relief valve off the c2.5 recently departed for a safer world off his drive. We'll have to replenish the sump with some fresh oil and at least drain the filter (looks like a good time to get ANOTHER set of screwdrivers from Halfrauds then!).

Steve, what you doing with the red turd now bro? We know they were good injectors as well, could come in handy mate, same year and all that.

Update soon.

P.S. Still not happy that the starters engaging correctly either but fuelling is prime suspect for now.

It's gonna be tight for Gaydon I fear. The bloody MOT's run out as well. It is taxed so if we get it running it'll be no probs to it to Barrys gaff for a MOT. Fueling could be interesting

Well thats it. I give up. Changed the inlet / injectors with a know good spare. The same. Then checked the FPR and yes it's returning fuel to the tank and so not overfueling. It's got a perfect spark, the plugs are getting fuel. Checked the Dis cap and while all off, removed the fuel pump relay and spun it over. No bulking, span over perfectly. Put the dcap back and the relay, span it over and it kinda bulks. It's like the timings out or the firing orders wrong. Yet both have been double checked and checked again and all is as it should be.

Si got on the phone to Andy E to buy that 80k 2.5 lump but just my luck, sold it this morning :x

So until I find a known good 2.5 lump to bolt staight in, the covers gone back on.

End of. It was a good idea but it ain't happening.

Cheers

Oh dear, not good news, maybe leave it for a week or 2 and then try again, sometimes a break from a project can do wonders.

Must be frustrating though :x you were so close to having it done!

Trevor, keep your chin up, you have put so much time, money and your heart and soul into this, step back, re-group, cause you'll regret stripping it out, maybe not now, but in the future.

You'll get to the bottom of it i'm sure, then you'll be back on track, personally i'm looking forward to seeing it when its done, that bay will be the mintiest mint bay going, probably one of the best :D :D

No, but this one was perfect on my old engine and if it was kaput, surley it wouldn't fire at all?

Adi. Can it still be heard running mate? I must admit I'd prefer a slightly lower mileage one tbo but if it runs okay with no knocks we may have something going. I know spadge has one as well.

Problem I have is that I cannot afford to blow ANY more money on this. I have huge commitments financially away from the car scene, this build was the last hit on the car (except for a slipper).

Short of pulling the lump out and stripping it again which means more cost theres nothing else left to check. Therefore I'd rather find another engine, use my head, oil pump and anything else I can, return the car to a 2.5 and sell the 2.7 engine on for someone else to play with. maybe they'll have more luck. remember this has the pukka TD crank, pistons and the C" stamping on the block.

I just wanna drive the thing.

I remember when working on these 'back in the day' when starting up for the first time after rebuild's, head work etc.. they can be quite sensitive to fouling up plugs.
After only a two or three long goes with the starter the plugs would get so wet it wouldnt fire up.
As soon as a brand new set of plugs went in it fired up straight away.

yes trev. it will need a hose or two replaced to fire up (blame Spook, hongkongfuey and gaszman, thieving b'stards, getting their own back :snigger: ).
i can reset the clocks to 50k if you like winkeye
entirely up to you though, the offer's there. no rush at all. :)

i know how you feel mate, my 2.7 conv's still not in running order, and we've had our 10 days of "summer" for another year. :cursin:

just a few odd ball ideas as it doesent seem to be any thing simple

:( Bugger, I was soooo hoping you were gonna crack this one, but sad to hear it's not wanting to go. Would the AFM affect this?? Set wrongly and over fueling?? Temp sensor?? :?

Trevor, pull it to bits mate and go at it again, for the cost of a headgasket set & bolts it's got to be worth it. A ballache, well & truly, but you ain't gonna be happy with something that wasn't what you were planning to start with.

Although I've just done exactly what you are having thoughts about, but ended up with a better engine.
