Yeah Brian did it :D
Ive thought about a 2nd car as a sh!tter to run but there isnt too much space where i am and id prefer a car that does every job i require of it.
Doesnt Air con need a new heater matrix too?

Cos i know your situation wil, i'd get rid. spending a lot of $$ on it fixing this stuff would be good, but (and i know what you think about this too!) add 0 come resale time :(

where you live and where you get to drive it, it's not as viable for you as for some other people...

there is also the issue that with an old(er) car comes old(er) car problems - that's a fact of life and nothing specifically to do with e30s.

these days you can get some really nice to drive cars, even fwd (which might come as a shock to some people on the forum! lol!) which you've also found out for yourself anyway. the technology in the past 20+ years has advanced quite a bit, and ignoring the e30 factor (i.e. people love their e30s) it's not really possible to argue for an e30 against a newer car IF you can afford the upfront price (upfront, i.e. you pay out for the car not for the car + repairs).

imo i love the look of the e30, it looks great on the exterior, but i'd really love to tear it apart underneath that and give it modern suspension, engine (ok engine swaps is easy but getting a nice gearshift and other stuff...), interior, options....and thats a whole host of stuff.

just my tuppence, a view not an argument.

Oh dear! I wondered when youd get involved

It maybe an old car but i cant see it giving me any trouble for the foreseeable future, ive only done 3k miles since ive had it and its done 5k since its last MOT :?

But yeah most of its time is spent around town and thats when i notice its flaws the most, if i lived out in the country then id keep this for sure as id actually be able to use it properly more than once in a blue moon.

I like the E30 but i dont love it, i dont love any car, i love the concept of a car that suits my every need, hence my "browsing" of machinary right now...

don't blame me lol!

e30 doesn't make economic sense for you right now, i think...seems like you agree.

No your right its a bit silly to run a 192+ horsepower sledgehammer around town :(
Sometimes i alternate between how fast i can go down my local roads (ive stopped now thankfully for ALL parties...) or driving it under 2k rpm at all times

Seriously tho, low 20s mpg isnt very funny when your not actually enjoying the cars power and instead suffering its lack of sound proofing and slow witted steering around town.

nice post moofles.

i can see both sides of this arguement actually.

what sort of money will u be looking at wil ?
cos the problem with selling a car with an engine transplant like that is it has such a small potential market that its value is affected. :(

for example a Ԛ£3k car with a Ԛ£3k engine conversion is not worth Ԛ£6k

that said its a mint car, conversion looks factory fit.

good luck whatever u decide.

Yeah the market is "limited" for a specialist car like ths, the price i'll put it up for i deem as fair but i wont reveal it on the zone, ive seen quite a few threads where sellers just seem to get shot down for little reason

But we'll see, its a great car to look at, one of the cleaner e30s around and a BMW is always a nice car to have when you open the garage doors.

Ive wanted an e30 since i was a kid and this is my 3rd one, i fancy seeing more of the automotive world really tho and the "residual disaster" of newer cars is appealing i must say :o

Oh i'll probably put the car up for sale on the zone, but serious buyers can pm/email/call/see the car. Im just saying that cause ive seen some seriously nasty threads break out beccause of openly advertised prices for cars :(

A friend of mines coming to see it in the near future, after that we'll have to see :o

Best car ive ever owned, would be going strong on a B road long after my E30 had put itself into a hedge!

Cheap to fuel, insure, mantain. Handles very well for whats essentially a Fiesta Coupe, is comfortable when your not in the mood for a blast.

Altho i woudlnt swap my time with E30s for anything, ive really enjoyed the 3 that ive owned; ive just moved on now

Will

I notice you also use an M3 instrument cluster. I understand they tach may not read accurately the rpms for some reason. Does your tach read accurately?

Ian332i suggested the use of a Dakota gizmo to correct the rpm signal.

Cheers

Wow replies to an old thread

alexbaby88: Yeah it didnt read properly because its calibrated to read to the 6 cyl models and the M3 cluster has more revs painted on in the same physical space on the dials, if that makes sense...Ians idea of the coder thingy is what he suggested to me when i asked him about this!

If it had a space between the 0 and the N it'd be road legal.

As it is I doubt the Police would be bothered though.

I mean from the point of view that I thought you could only put plates that were of the same age or older than the car on it.

Oh yeah good point, didn't notice that Image

That wouldn't be legal unless he's found some way round it like re-registering the car as new winkeye
