Mmm that could make for an interesting drive. Can't say i was ever that fond of the supercharger scream of the JRSC I had on my Lotus
To my shame I've had the car 5 months and this is the third time I've been out in it and the first time where I've had a blat down familiar country lanes. I actually got round to moving the bucket seat forward a few inches today, up to now I've been reaching for the wheel.
What a bloody enjoyable car to hustle along in now the driving position is sorted, especially considering it's 25 years old. I was really impressed with the H&R cup suspension on the road, how they'll perform on track I'm interested to find out as I need to make a decision on whether to go coilovers or not.
Brakes are a real weak point, I'm unsure as to how best to improve the stopping power, I spent £3k on a Alcon disk / 6pot AP set up on my Lotus and granted they didn't fade on track I didn't find the stopping power improved that much for the outlay, first stop will be big disks. I've got to do something.
All in all what a pleasant surprise, big grin on my face!
Is it worth investing In a Z3 steering rack and gear lever to quicken things up?

WMS brakes really are a decent improvement over standard e30 brakes and for the money well worth it imo

She's all in and running?
Awesome project. I was always thinking how good a built M52 would be in an E30 fastroad/track car given the engines are so light for a 6 pot.
almost like the mythical 4pot balance an iS has yet this will actually have torque to be able to make you notice it in the corners

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
And I've got no crazy inspection 2 bills to look forward toDanThe wrote:Even an E46 M3 needs a load of money throwing at it to make it work nowadays!Muzz2676 wrote:It is going to be a hoot. I just mustn't dwell on the thought that we're now in nice e46 m3 money
Did a trackday at Donnington Park today and it's obvious that I'm going to have to change everything, brakes were dire, suspension was too soft for track work. Engine was actually okay, didn't feel like I was lacking power.
At the end of the day I did have fun sliding all over the place but not ideal.
Limped back to DanThe's with no rear pads so metal on metal, the car is now with the guru to work his magic!
I'm not that downhearted as I can see the potential, in hindsight I should have bought a boggo car rather than a so called fast road/track car that is clearly just the former!

And the build begins and as always with these things we encounter issues, gearbox is worth changing as its had a bit of a dodgy 'refurb', going to go with an e36 box but that then makes the 3.64 diff I bought from Theo redundant. Fan is fooked too. Sounds like the whole conversion was held together by cable ties.

I keep my sprits up because a) its going to be the nuts when it's done b) its going to be built to a great standard by Dan c) its a keeper

Time to relocate that battery as well.
Good man - I can't wait to see this finished.Muzz2676 wrote:Not yet mate, still got to add the skirts etc and get it mapped. Also rad is fooked so need to get a nice alloy one. Looking at some October weekend datesLondonTom wrote:Nice one - track day booked?
Think there's still a few places left for the Spa TD I'm doing on the 16th!
Really tempted to build one of these.
