Another one run off the zone, WTF!!!

The guy obviously was looking for answers, and all I can see is slating abuse.
Is this what's happening in here now???
I though threads like this were discussed, and people were saying that being helpful would be the future??

Well done lads.

Wouldn't say OE mods or standard.. Can think of many cars far from OE/OE mods that didn't get slated

see, I'm all for doing mods and it is a learning curve.. but fitting the wrong profile tyres is a bit odd.. bigger wheels yes! but fitting the wrong tyres to try and make your standard rims look bigger is odd.. and it won't help the car's handling especially on a genuine sport! if you had an old howler of a 316 I'd say 'go nuts'..

it's not really a 'mod'.. it's just using the wrong part! (akin to saying 'well the windows weren't tinted enough for my liking but a fiat panda's are so I fitted fiat panda glass in my E30!')
Not saying I agree with what he has done.. Just saying it could be worse. I think it looks retarded. 205/50 is the lowest I'd go.

That's your opinion John, but what i'm saying is be helpful rather than driving some newbie away, it's not difficult to help.

If you lot bothered to read the thread properly you'll see my post was in response to this remark so I haven't gone in slating undersize tyres just for the fun of it so for all those whining about another newbie being run off the forum you can 0121!

I was trying to help by telling him that his car should not rub on 205/55R15s no matter how low the car is but it was dismissed like I was talking shit.

Why the f*ck would you want to go for a skinnier tyre and lose grip?

you've written 195/45 twice now. they are 195/50. like i said i got given them free so put them on until i refurbish the wheels then i will buy new tyres all round, but to be honest will probably stick to a 195/50 because i prefer it. i dont think i need to worry about losing 10mm of width for grip. its only a poxy 2.5 170bhp (when new) its not like its got loads of power is it. I have taken note that a couple of you have said it shouldn't scrub no matter how low it is and i am wondering what could be causing this as it only seems to be the driver side that rubs mostly. Also as it does have a slight rubbing issue i dont see that it is a bad thing that i have put smaller tyres on to stop this issue. i really cant see why you all have such an issue with tyres being smaller by 5mm profile and 10mm width. its hardly any different really when you actually think about it. its not like i have stretched some 185/45/15 tyres on there is it. they arent stretched and will still be perfectly fine.

and why would i want to put 16s/17s on it? in my opinion they look a lot more stupid on an E30 than smaller tyres on standard wheels. 15" is the perfect size for an E30 if you ask me.

I bet the drivers side has had an arch! That would explain your rubbing! Have a feel underneath and measure the lips each side (oo-err!) and measure the distance between lip and tyre! :)

This does highlight your understanding of it..

The 55 is not a measurement it is a ratio. So your 5mm is actually 15mm smaller radius, 30mm smaller dia, giving a 5% error now in the speedo.

I can understand chucking on a free set 'for now', penniless losers is what owning e30's is about, but paying for something completely wrong..

The arches are very clean and there's not any sign of rust and it seems the car has been resprayed before so maybe you're right. Not exactly a bad thing if they have been though is it..

I think the technical term for that is a bodge.. Considering it shouldn't be rubbing with factory wheels and tyres.

Oh and possible reasons for arch contact with correct size tyres are a poorly fitted replacement rear arch or a bent trailing arm.

Where is it rubbing? If you take the wheel off and have a look inside the arch with a torch you should be able to see where its rubbing, the mark will be either black or bare metal.

That isn't 60 mm. I think something has collapsed at the rear of the car. I would be checking all the bushes as it just doesn't sit right.

This is 60mm (well a bit higher due to the obvious lack of weight)

the reason my tyre has been scrubbing is because i have been informed that the rear arches have been replaced at some point. probably why they're so clean and rust free. must not be in the absolutely correct position but it doesnt show from looking at it. and for your information some of you, my suspension hasnt collapsed it passed through an MOT today without a mention.
