These brakes also had a penchant for bursting into flames under load, which given the work that's gone into the car, wouldn't be good.Simon13 wrote:why aren't you keeping the OE brakes? i expect its a similar system to the B6 3.5's and a big 296mm disc with W124 merc calipers
I shall replace them, just need to work out the caliper mount required, suspicions now are that the carriers are off an early Merc cosworth.

I think Ian had quite a lot of personal problems going on too which hampered this build. I remember him buying it and IIRC he bought it in Germany and drove it back here.Simon13 wrote:i remember the head of was off it too for some reason. Cant recall if it was down here or not. All i know is Ian didn't have any money and nothing got done quick for this reason
Nice bloke Ian and an epic car

RE brakes i've had the same setup on my old touring and they're epic. They just laughed at the track work for lapping the ring. They're impressive and dare i say as good as anything else.

Another update. We now have everything required to finish the car. A genuine Hartge centre section(new) and a used Hartge rear box. Also got a set of WMS front brakes and discs.
I just won a set of what we believe are the correct original front brakes, the same girling calipers and mounts used by the Alpina B6 of the same era, and the enlarged cylinder.
So hopefully a shift or two on the tools and it should be ready. Won't be in the short term though. Still have to get the front valance copied before it goes on the road, which will take about 6 weeks and will cost about a feckin fortune. There are no more to be had and as it's fibreglass and very low, has to be done.

Well, I guess another update is required.
I now have the correct alpina big brake setup for this turd, even down to the larger reservoir, but they'll be getting refurbed and put away, it'll be running wms brake kit though, safety before vanity.
Car is no further forward. Both Steve and I have been flat out with work and I'm also renovating the house. Still needs brakes fitted and commissioned, some complex engine wiring, a full service, a full exhaust system built and fitted and a copy made of the front valance and bumper piece. 3 months at best, 4-6 realistically.
I got distracted when I bought the C2 also, it was parked in the garage and was road legal so any spare time was spent driving it.
