£750 sounds like a good price for the respray if its someone you can trust.

Always liked this car from when you first bought it 8)

Thanks Rob, I know what you mean too, there is something about this one I love too  Even though its a B20 auto  I've thought about upgrading the engine but we'll see, nothing in the pipe line yet atleast...

As for the respray, its my old mans friend who has his own place and is very good from what my father tells me. He did his camper van and that was a nice job to be honest.

The quote was for me to remove everything like the lights, glass, trim etc and then get it over to him, he'll then do all the prep, sort out all the rust and do the welding that needs doing, then respray it all execpt in the engine bay and inside the boot as they are fine... But everything else would be done, i.e door shuts, doors...

So its a matter of me finding the pennies! I'm gonna sell one of my guns to fund this part of it I think

I'm sure you're quite used to stripping lights glass and trim out of E30's now Jim

Just got to try to resist selling the bits you take off before it comes back from the painters

Thats the hard part, once I start to strip her, not to list things on Ebay

I'll have to store them all in the house to keep them seperate too.

I have a potential buyer for one of my guns so it will only cost me an extra £250 which will be very nice... Still have to part with £750 though 8O

Managed to get out there today and get a few bits done... The plan was to fit a few bits and then get the Cruise Control off the breaker turd I have at the moment...

I wanted to get these bits installed

Image

I didnt managed to get it all installed. :(

Started off with the foam replacement for behnd the battery, its been 'hanging' for a very long time and needed replacing, I had a spare one with some wear but better than my current one so used that for now, I can switch it at a later date for a new one when I get round to it.

Took the battery out and this was my view 8O

Image

So the replacement was definately better...

Image

Some sanding back and cleaning up then treating with some rust stuff...

Image

Then primes and painted... It was very cold so the rattle can was spitting the paint out, doesnt matter too much though as the battery will cover it. I'll give it a few days and polish it up a little, hopefully it will flatten off a bit.

Then put the new foam on, loads better

Image

I then started on installing the OBC... 8O Thats loads of fun  After lots of swearing I managed to get it lighting up, but still need to figure out where a few plugs go.

First ones being the 2 down behind the glovebox

Image

Then one next to the OBC itself...

Image

Theres a few of these ones I have no clue where they plug in

And then the 2 in the engine bay

Image

Fook knows where those 2 plug into...

I also replaced the 2 pillar trim bits as I butchered mine up when replacing my dash a while back... So they're all nice and new now.

Gonna finish the OBC tomorrow and hopefully get the cruise control off the other car ready to be installed, although I need to break some cars first and sell some bits before I have too much play time. :(

Only done an OBC install on a facelift turd but i'd imagine it's similar, all the wires behind the glovebox will go into that big white plug and hey will be shaped to only go in one place. As for the ones in the engine bay, only thing i know of there is the temp sensor and the exterior siren both infront of the nearside wheel near the foglight.

That rust on the battery tray wants investigating though fella, that's way worse than my chromie and with a tiny prod it was a hole, i'm guessing that's showing rust on the inside as well

I was thinking it looked pretty solid 8O

I did both sides of mine with black smoothrite and about 6 coats of waxoyl :D

Might not be factory finish but who gives a fook when you can't see 90% of it unless you take the battery out

It wasnt as bad as it looked mate, my first thought was 'poo'...

I then had a proper poke with my inspection tool to make sure it wasnt bad

Image

Then I sanded it and got the drill out to remobal all the surface rust, to bare metal, then treated...

Image

With regards to the 2 plugs left near the glove box, I had a feeling they went into the big white plug, fook knows how im suppose to see where though as my eyes and finger dont angle well and cant see where.

Actually looking back at pics of mine it was a bit worse so you might be ok, i'd still be checking the inside though.

The big white plug should just unclip from where it is held.

Yes Rav, I printed that out and took it with me, couldnt find where they went though, the guide needs altering I think as it didnt really go in order which it started out like it was going to.

@Dave - I'll check the inside of it over tomorrow just to be sure. The big white connect plug thing, I've never been able to get them things off, always end up just pulling on them til they snap  I'll work it all out tomorrow though and hopefully get it sorted.

Need to remove the horn from the breaker for the obc though as my kit didnt have that part. Then I'll need to figure out how to use the obc

Next plan is to decide whether im gonna switch the rear axle to disc or not..

Do all the currently drum brake lines plum straight into the disc conversion or would I need to rerun new brake lines? I need to swicth my fuel tank at some point so Might be worth changing the rear drums to disc and refurbing it all before it goes under.

Also need to get the suspesion from the breaker as it has the 'Sports' package so I assume the shocks will be all branded? Whether they're any good I dont know but worth a look...

Also, front struts, 45 to 51mm, straight replacement? May as well upgrade mine when I have a spare set sitting around which I can refurb before fitting. Considering it doesnt take long to switch them if they're is nothing diferent about the pair...

If I switch the rear and upgraded the front now, if I ever decided up upgrade the engine, atleast all the brakes are already done.

Think you slide it rather than pull it! ;)

As far as i can see the brake lines on the car will all be the same, as will the flexi from the car to the arms but the pipe on the arms will be different, but then you'll have the ones from the arms your using anyway. Front struts are a straight swap to. May as well get it done now!

And because i am ace i added this to the Wiki for thickos like you;

Struts are a striaght replacement Jim, doing it on the chromie.
Reas disc conversion will be new cables and maybe bending some of the brakelines, not too sure.
There's a OBC guide in the WIKI to how to use it

Lovely  Once the other Touring shell is gone, I can get the next one stripped down for parts, I'll refurb everything while its off, replace whats needed so its all ready to go straight on.

Dave, I see on your build thread your finished front struts, they look very special  What are the blue middle bits I can see in them?

Also, would either of you know if the shocks etc from the breaker turd are still good to use even though they're 25 years old? Do people generally buy new or do these things last if they are orginals? Not really clued up on this side of things to be honest.

Also, Dave, what did you pay for your bits to be powder coated?

The blue bits are dust covers, they come with Bilstein shocks, they do the same job as the black sleeves you usually see. Not sure on the cost of powder coating as they were done with a load of other stuff, i'm guessing £30 would see them done and some change! Just Google powdercoaters and then e-mail them for a qoute.

As for shocks, check there is no sign of any leaks. Also when compressed they should come back up easily and quickly. If they are leaking or don't come back up they are scrap.

Definately swap the beam over mate if you have a disk setup - if you're not taxing the car for a couple of months you've got plenty of time and can get it all minty fresh for when you want to use it :D

You lying b@stard

@ Rav, If the shocks are fooked, depending on cost of rebuilding them, if its too expensive, they'll be sold on Ebay as ULTRA RARE  winkeye

@Rob - Thats what I was thinking... Dont need to actually use it until The German Show, would mean I couldnt go to any local meets but thats the only one im bothered about it being on the road for.

I also forgot to bid on that chrome trim  Someone else got it too
